Bungie has been quick to kill any attempts at exploiting Destiny’s loot system, but until today hadn’t really offered a solution to the larger problem: Destiny’s ‘Engram’ system for delivering rare loot was broken and unfair. Today, Bungie released the patch notes for the upcoming 1.0.2 game patch. In the notes, Bungie offers the fix gamers have been pleading for since the game’s release.
Cryptarch ChangesCayde-6 took the Cryptarch aside and showed him a sack of doorknobs. He decoded that mystery pretty quickly.
- Legendary Engrams will always produce Legendary or better quality items, including Materials or Exotics
- Rare Engrams will always produce Rare or better quality items
- Rare engrams will have an increased chance to produce Legendary quality items
Finally. No more Blue gear from Purple Engrams. The changes listed above and below will only affect engrams dropped after the patch goes live, so don’t bother trying to stock up now. Furthermore, Bungie is addressing some of the issues with Heroic Rewards.
- Daily Heroics, Weekly Heroics, and Vanguard: Tiger Playlist activities will include Rare and Legendary Engrams in addition to their existing rewards
More engram drops can’t be a bad thing, especially given the promised changes to the decoding system. The patch won’t go live until sometime next week, but as a warning you should probably decode all the Legendary Engrams you’ve been stockpiling in your inventory. Any and all Legendary Engrams in player inventories will be demoted to Rare Engrams when the patch goes live sometime next week.
