Today, EA revealed the cover art for its upcoming FIFA 15. Right after the World Cup ended, too. Heh.
Sure, Argentina lost yesterday, and if you watched the awards ceremony afterwards, you’ll have noticed that Lionel Messi, captain of the national Argentinian team, was looking a bit disappointed (even after winning the Golden Ball–the award given to the best player of the FIFA World Cup). Can’t exactly blame him. He played well and carried his team almost single-handedly to the finals only to lose in extra time.
Still, despite the loss, Lionel Messi is not fading into obscurity anytime soon. For the fourth time, Lionel Messi is making his appearance on a FIFA cover, this time pouring all his awesomeness onto the cover of FIFA 15. Let’s add FIFA 15 on top of his cover appearances on all of FIFA Street, FIFA 13, and FIFA 14.
In their announcement, EA boasts:
In that time, Messi has set the record for most goals in a year (91) and marked a milestone as the only player to receive the FIFA Ballon d’Or four times.
This past season, the 27 year old had 28 league goals for FC Barcelona and captained Argentina to the FIFA World Cup final. During the World Cup Messi won four Man of the Match awards, scored four times and received the Golden Ball award for best player of the tournament.
Leo Messi was originally announced as an EA SPORTS Football Ambassador in November 2011, a partnership that has not only put him on the cover of multiple FIFA titles but also brought a new street football pitch to Barcelona thanks to the Messi foundation and EA SPORTS.
Congrats to Messi on his Golden Ball and his new appearance on the cover of FIFA 15! FIFA 15 launches later this fall on all of PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on September 23rd!
