Narcissu Gets the Steam Greenlight

On December 4th in the afternoon, Narcissu – a free indie visual novel developed by stage-nana (pen name of Tomo Kataoka) – and its sequel was green-lit for distribution on Steam.

Narcissu, which as a visual novel plays like games in the Ace Attorney franchise or the story mode in Fire Emblem: Awakening, tells the story of two terminally ill hospital patients who decide that, more than anything, they don’t want to die within those whitewashed walls. Stealing the protagonist’s father’s car, they drive off on one last roadtrip.

This announcement marks the latest in a growing trend of visual novels making the list of those approved for distribution on Steam (When They Cry, or Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni being another late, high-profile title to be green-lit) as the medium gains popularity in the West.
