Many fans of Metal Gear Solid may remember Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, which was a re-release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, but with a new 3rd-person camera angle that was eventually used for MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots. The package also included a ton of new features, but one of the biggest inclusions was the first incarnation of Metal Gear Online. While the MGO servers have been shutdown since 2007, soon players will able to return to the game once again.
Fans from Save MGO recently launched a multiplayer server for Metal Gear Online 1 that will be playable with all copies across PC, PlayStation 2, and original (non-slim) PlayStation 3 systems. Although, it should be noted that the server is entirely unofficial, thus making it only accessible through cheat devices such as Codebreaker 9 and Gameshark 2. Still, a few weeks in, the servers are up and running, and working splendidly. For those of you who yearned for the days of MGO1 to return, you’re quite in luck. Although, the MGO that came with Guns of the Patriots remains inaccessible, it may be only a matter of time before that is saved as well.
You can click here to find more information on how to connect to the newly revived Metal Gear Online multiplayer server. Below you can check out some footage of the server in action. Happy sneaking and welcome back!
