Twinfinite’s Holiday Gift Guide for Other Geeky Things

Note from Editor MattYou know not everybody wants a video game this Christmas. Sometimes, sometimes they want something else, something that says, “Hey, I’m a nerd, it’s the holidays, let’s celebrate.” This Holiday Gift Guide section is for you.

ThinkGeek’s 8-Bit Tie, Recommended By Yami

Price: $14.99

I’ve worn this tie many times and I’m almost always asked where I got it when I wear it to conventions. Now you know. Keep my secret, for I have been charitable with you. You’re welcome.

Replay: The History of Video Games, Recommended By Scott

Price: $16.99

The History of Video Games Replay is a brilliant account of the history of video games. Tristan Donovan takes a slight different tact then many other historical accounts, with a greater focus on people and culture then technology. Aside from usual history, video game crash, Nintendo’s rise, etc. There are chapters on less known European history. The U.K., Spain, France, and others all get some love during their 8-bit computer eras. Anyone who is interested in video game history would do well to check this book out.

Mass Effect Funko Pop! Vinyls, Recommended By Yami

Price: $11.99 (Preorder, releases December 31st)

One of the greatest series in gaming lives on- IN CUTE FORM! As a huge Funko Pop! vinyls fan, these Mass Effect editions of the lovable, chibi, souless-eyed toys is on my wishlist. Seriously, look at that Garrus one. Fans of collectible vinyls and/or Mass Effect will love any single one of these.

Awakening: The Art of Halo 4, Recommended By Terrence

Price: $34.99

This gift was actually available last holiday season, but it’s such an awesome book and I think it’s still relevant to any Halo/sci-fi fan. A friend got this for me last year and it’s still keep it out on the coffee table so friends can flip through it. It features commentary from the art director of Halo 4 along with other designers from 343 Industries. I always love the environments of the series, so it’s cool to see all the concept art of the planet Requiem.

Fables: Deluxe Edition, Recommended By Chris

Price: $29.99

Telltale’s been on a bit of a roll with their licenses lately. The Wolf Among Us is yet another critical hit, but in case your gamer can’t wait for the next episode to arrive, there is the Fables Deluxe Edition to keep them satisfied. With 10 issues collected, the Deluxe Editions will make for a great edition to read by the fire this December.

Pacific Rim, Recommended By Muaz

Price: $24.99

Giant Gundam-type robots beating the shit out of some Godzilla-type monsters with a bitchin’ soundtrack and Idris Elba. WHAT MORE COULD YOU POSSIBLY ASK FOR?! It’s like Guillermmo Del Toro watched an anime one day and thought to himself, “I can make this live-action and awesome,” then did.

Saga, Vol. 1 Paperback, Recommended by Muaz

Price: $8.99

I randomly stumbled onto Saga one day while trying to get my weekly stash of comics and it very quickly became a must-read issue after issue. The story is slightly reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet, with Marko and Alana, the two protagonists, coming from warring planets and escaping to form a life together with their baby daughter Hazel. There’s no way I can do justice to this book in one paragraph but get this collected Volume 1 for the comic-reader on your list, all they’ll love you forever*.

(*Disclaimer: not really but they’ll dig the shit outta Saga)

Kidrobot’s South Park Stick of Truth Vinyls, Recommended By Yami

Price: $11.99

Kidrobot is full of quality toys. Do they even sell anything else- who cares? There’s no exception with these South Park Stick of Truth vinyls.  There’s a variety of characters to choose from and these little guys could make some great stocking stuffers. Although Stick of Truth got delayed again and there’s a lot of discourse on whether it’ll be any good, these toys are perfect for South Park and vinyl fans.

Dark Souls: Design Works, Recommended By Matt

Price: $39.99 (Preorder)

It’s no secret that a good portion of the staff here loves Dark Souls. I can’t speak for the rest of the staff, but personally it was the gothic world that drew me in, and the detailed intricacies of its myth that kept me in. Udon Entertainment has worked hard to translate the official Design Works book. Colored pages, translated notes and interviews all in a beautiful hardcover book detailing the art and development of From Software’s masterpiece. This beautiful book will surely thrill any fans of this game.

Note from Editor MattYeah, that’s right. You just decided to buy someone a t-shirt. How’ll that turn out? Jump back to the Holiday Gift Guide’s intro post for more categories!
