Arma 3, developed by Bohemia Interactive, was released earlier this summer without any actual campaign content. This decision was made to avoid delays and get the game out to their fans. Instead they are releasing more of the content as three separate (and free) campaign DLC packs, with the first pack arriving on October 31 of this year.
The first episode is called Survive, and will feature new story content, weapons, animations, 3D objects, and scripted modules for the content creation component of the game. Jay Crowe, the Creative Director on Arma 3 gives us some insight into the campaign’s story.
“Our first campaign episode introduces players to Ben Kerry, a regular soldier who’s part of a NATO peacekeeping mission in the Mediterranean. Following a couple of years of uneasy cease-fire, this US-led deployment is now in the process of a staged drawdown. The vacuum left by withdrawing forces is being rapidly filled by the opposing CSAT faction, creating the conditions for, one might say, a flashpoint.”
Sounds like a military shooter story, alright! Crowe also mentions to look out for more content such as new vehicles as they release the final two DLC packs. I don’t have much experience with this game other than playing a bunch of the DayZ mod in Arma 2, but either way it’s cool to see Bohemia making atypical decisions to get the game out to fans. Arma 3 is available now for PC.
