I am very much not pleased to inform you that the proposed sequel to the beloved game Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, which would have been titled Shadow of the Eternals, is now in limbo. This really should come as no surprise, given the track-record of the studio involved (Precursor Games), but I’m still massively disappointed. You can pretty much taste my excitement in the post I wrote a few months back detailing the Kickstarter for the game.
After a series of major setbacks, co-founder of the studio, Dennis Dyack, announced that the project was on hiatus. Only $300,000 of the $1.5 million goal was made during the first Kickstarter. In the second Kickstarter, with a less ambitious goal of $750,000, only $320,000 was raised before the deadline passed. Then, more disturbingly, one of Precursor’s co-founders, Ken McCulloch, was arrested in July for possessing child pornography.
According to Dennis Dyack, the project is not dead. “We have all agreed as a group that when and if the time is right we will get together and start it up again…Keep your head high everyone and remember what we have accomplished together.” I’m not sure if I should believe him.
