[News] Christopher Lennertz to Score Starhawk

I awfully like video game soundtracks, to the point where they probably comprise the majority of my iTunes library. As someone who holds this branch of music in high regard and who has listened to quite a bit of music by Christopher Lennertz, this is some pretty gosh darn cool news.

Christopher has done work across film, TV, and video games, but I can probably guess which of those three you’re most interested in, so you might be interested to know of his work in Medal of Honor, Gun, and Mass Effect 3, among many others.

The soundtrack for Starhawk is now available on iTunes, actually, though the press release and the soundtrack’s Amazon listing indicate that the release date is supposed to be June 19th. If this is some kind of error, I’d highly recommend hopping on iTunes and picking up the album before it’s rectified. There’s quite good stuff on the album.

Press release after the jump.

(Los Angeles, CA) April 30, 2012—Award winning composer Christopher Lennertz scores Lightbox Interactive and SCE’s Santa Monica Studios Starhawk. The successor of Warhawk, the game will be released exclusively for PlayStation 3 on May 8, 2012. The score album will be released June 19, 2012 through La-La Land Records. Starhawk is a journey into the Frontier, with the goal to reach the Battle Zone through building war crafts with real time strategy to take down the Hawks. Lennertz has worked previously on the Mass Effect series , Medal of Honorand Gun. His previous films include Horrible Bosses and Alvin and the Chipmunks. Lennertz’s most recent film project is the number one movie currently in theaters,Think Like A Man.

In Starhawk, the universe is in the future. After the Rush, humans are starting to colonize other planets and reside mainly on the Frontier. The game follows Emmett Graves, who has been infected with riff energy making him an Outcast. Travelling to different areas of the galaxy, Graves and his brother try to take down the Hawks. “When scoring a video game, you are creating the environment for the player through the music. You are hitting specific actions of the player. The music in a video game can be shown off a little unlike in a film because dialogue is not a huge contender,” Lennertz stated. “The music has a very demanding role.”
