Super Mini Con in Davie, Florida is a nice yearly event for shoppers interested in anime, comic, and gaming merchandise. Those looking for regular convention features such as panels, contests, and other activities might find the event lacking in these aspects.
The convention had an entrance fee of $8, and went from 10:30 in the morning until 9:00 at night. As the name suggests, it was a small con held in a single room. The space was occupied a handful of booths selling merchandise, a stage in the corner for panels, and a wrestling ring used for one of the events. Attendees looking to buy products in whatever they may be interested in should be pleasantly surprised; the convention had plenty of variety despite being diminutive in size.
A few special guests attended the event, the most notable appearances being Cindy Morgan from Tron, and Allen Bellman, a golden age comic book artist. There were two panels, one which was a cosplay sewing workshop, and the other one which revolved around indie comic books. Unfortunately, both panels were scheduled at the same time, resulting in attendees being able to only attend one. Other activities included all day karaoke, a few contests, a comedy show, and a wrestling event.
There’s not too much more to say about Super Mini Con, it was a one day convention that visitors could probably be done with in a few hours. This was the event’s first year, and I can only imagine it getting better should its host decide to continue it on a yearly basis. As I stated before, those in the area looking to do some shopping for anime, comic, and gaming merchandise would be pleasently surprised by what the convention has to offer. Anyone who attends conventions for its activities and features would probably find the event lacking in contrast to larger cons.
