20 Original Xbox Games That Need Remakes the Most

So many great games ready to steal the spotlight back.
xbox beyond good and evil

The original Xbox may be forgotten to most, but it had some really great games on it. As Microsoft moved forward, most attention was given to the consoles blockbuster hits, but there are a few that would definitely shine with a fresh remake. Whether it’s rebuilding the same experience in a brand new engine, or bringing some of these greats to the modern age with a bit of re-imagining, here are some Xbox games that are long overdue for a fresh start.

Panzer Dragoon Orta

Crimson Dragon for the Xbox One was a sort of spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon Orta from the original Xbox, although it wasn’t nearly as good.  That can be reconciled with a proper remake of this Xbox classic that showed rail shooters can still be damn good.

Jet Set Radio Future

Jet Set Radio Future was a launch title for the original Xbox and one of the most fun games on the console. Following Beat and his crew in a new, more futuristic setting, with all of the amazing music and tight gameplay of the Dreamcast original was awesome. It’s been a while since we’ve had to step into those skates, so why not revive this game for the Xbox One using all the new power under the hood?

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay

The Suffering

Scary games are always popular, and there’s something about a game that lets you feel like you can defend yourself but still terrifies you at every turn. That’s exactly what The Suffering did on Xbox and we would love to see it happen again.

Steel Battalion

Steel Battalion received a sequel for Kinect but we’re all trying to erase that from our memories. What better way to do that then to be thrust into a proper remake of the original. We’re not saying it will need a new version of the massive controller used to pilot the mechs in game, but if it did come with one, we wouldn’t complain.

Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath

The Oddworld games have always been great, and Stranger’s Wrath is no different. This time, players took control of Stranger, a bounty hunter who traversed the world and hunted criminals. It was a great entry to the series and one that is in dire need of a full, bona fide remake.

Beyond Good & Evil

While fans continue to wait on a sequel to this critically acclaimed game, why not hit them off with a solid remake built from the ground up for new consoles? Many video game lovers missed the bus on Beyond Good & Evil and it’s time to bring them up to speed.

The Elder Scrolls III: Marrowind

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell

Splinter Cell managed to out-stealth Metal Gear Solid by making the mechanic an absolute necessity. Using the light and the dark as primary components of the experience it spawned an entire series of espionage. With so many reboots going on, maybe it’s time this series went back to its roots.

Ninja Gaiden

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge

Who doesn’t like flying planes through a beautiful sky while blasting enemies to pieces and pulling off daring stunts? That’s what Crimson Skies allowed with its intense action and fun campaign. The Xbox One could definitely benefit from a remake.

Mercenaries

Jade Empire

Jade Empire was a great action-RPG from BioWare that showed off their ability to step outside of their comfort zone and provide something fresh and unique. The action combat and beautiful lore would benefit greatly from being brought into the newest generation. Just imagine the martial arts on your Xbox One, and those beautiful landscaped could get some much needed upgrades.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic showed that BioWare can make an amazing RPG with anything you throw at them. They eventually passed this series off so they could focus on other things, but a remake bringing the beauty seen in Mass Effect and Dragon Age to this must play classic wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Black

Yes, we know that there are a lot of shooters out there. But Black was special. It’s focus on tearing the world up and amazing sound design left its mark on players for years.

Timesplitters

Timesplitters 2 was a shooter ahead of its time, and players were reminded of this thanks to an Easter egg in the recently released Homefront: The Revolution. It’s time to do this classic title justice and show shooter fans a good time.

Destroy All Humans!

Destroy All Humans! tasked players with… well, destroying all humans, and it was an absolute blast to play. It would be great to see Crypto return with his destructive ways with huge cities he can explode at will.

Soul Calibur II

Soulcalibur II is arguably one of the best in the series. On top of that, the Xbox version gave players the ability to wield Spawn and all of his hellish abilities against the amazing roster. An update with all of the amazing cape physics fans have been wanting is long overdue.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

Prince of Persia on the OG Xbox was one seriously fun adventure that eventually spawned the Assassin’s Creed series. As we wait on the sequel to Ubisoft’s biggest money-maker, why not jump back into the series that started it all?

Shenmue

With Shenmue III finally being developed, it’s time that players who may have missed the previous entries be shown just why everyone is so excited. Shenmue was released on the original Xbox and Xbox 360 shortly after its Dreamcast release. A remake bringing the game to the current gen in grand fashion, sort of like what was done with Halo 2, would be the perfect way to do so.
