So much beauty in 2016.
uncharted 4

2016 has seen a lot of major releases grace the PS4 spanning the gamut of genres from action adventure, to time-consuming RPGs. These AAA offerings have finally begun taking advantage of what the current generation of consoles has to offer and it’s led to some eye-popping, jaw-dropping experiences. This may very well be the year of the best looking video games so far.

Battlefield 1

Battlefield 1 continues a long franchise that is no stranger to being absolutely gorgeous. DICE’s Frostbyte engine has provide realism on a grand scale for years now and the WWI setting is being used to great affect for an experience filled with eye candy.

Dark Souls III

You would think a game so bent on being dark and gloomy wouldn’t have any beauty, but you’d be wrong. The gothic architecture, twisted monstrosities that perfectly encapture each enemy’s suffering and threat, and the deliberate nature in which you must move through the world lead to one truly beautiful experience in the PS4.

Destiny: Rise of Iron

Destiny was already an impressive looking game with it’s take on ravaged sections of planets, space combat, and immortal Guardians of light. Rise of Iron added something that tainted that beauty, by twisting it into a mechanical virus that added an odd beauty to everything it touched.

Doom

Doom makes hell look like a beautiful place, even with all of the gore and fire that flares up around the player.

Dying Light: The Following

The Following took Dying Light and flipped it by thrusting players into a much more open environment that made hiding difficult and encounters more intense. The expansion also boosted the visuals to make the nightmare of being chased down by a hundred zombies even more memorable on the PS4.

Far Cry Primal

Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV looks as stunning as you’d expect from a Square Enix game. From the stunning character models to the beautiful cities and wide expanses players will visit, there’s a large level of detail that helps everything come alive. Even battle looks amazing with all of the lighting and particle effects, and we can’t wait to dive into the full adventure.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Overwatch

Overwatch’s art style belies the deep shooter that lives underneath in a way that makes it instantly memorable. Adorable characters juxtaposed with technological behemoths in worlds that are familiar yet wholly different keep us wanting to see what comes next.

Persona 5

The Persona series is known for catchy soundtracks, tough challenges, and wonderful art direction. The latest entry keeps to the status quo with a sortof masquerade heist theme that gives off a dark yet inviting tone.

Ratchet and Clank

Many games attempt to go for the Pixar look to varying degrees of success but Insomniac managed to fully capture the essence. What resulted was a great reboot and one of the prettiest games this generation.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration

Crystal Dynamics proved they could make an amazing Tomb Raider game with the reboot back in 2013, but they outdid themselves with Lara Croft’s more survival oriented new adventure.

Street Fighter V

Fighters tend to look good since developers really only have to focus on the combatants themselves but SFV seems to go above and beyond with stunning character models and eye catching flourishes that appear mid battle.

The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine

Wild Hunt was already a fantastic looking game in PS4, but Toussaint’s opulent vineyards, fairy tale kissed lands, and nightmarish vampires helped lift Blood and Wine to another level.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Leave it to a first party studio to show exactly what the PS4 is truly capable of. Naughty Dog pulled out all of the stops to ensure that Nathan Drake’s final adventure was also his most beautiful.
