10 Features Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Doesn’t Tell You About

Know what you're doing.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided

There’s Always Another Way – Following your objective marker blindly in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will usually lead you straight into an all-out confrontation, complete with guns. You don’t want this. Whenever you find an entry point that’s heavily guarded by enemies, you can bet that there will always be an alternate path of entry that lets you sneak in and avoid combat. Unless, of course, you want to be a monster.

Save Your Praxis Points – This doesn’t happen very often in the game, but there will be certain points where you’ll be thankful that you didn’t spend all of your Praxis points in one go. It can be tempting to use them, but I advise saving a few for key situations. There are some levels in the game where you simply won’t be able to progress unless you buy a strength upgrade that allows you to move heavier objects.

Side Quests Can Be Locked Out – There aren’t that many side quests available in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and I recommend doing all of the ones that come your way. These quests will be canceled each time you leave a major area and progress in the story, so it’s best to get them done before moving on. It’s also worth noting that during missions, your secondary objectives can also be canceled out if you progress too far in the mission. Try to hit all your optional objectives to get the most rewards and experience.

Talking is Very Useful – You should definitely get the speech augmentation early on in the game. If you like resolving conflicts in a peaceful manner, this augmentation will come in very handy, as it gives you info on a person’s characteristics, and the types of personalities they respond well to.

Koller Can Do Wonderful Things for Your Augmentations – Whenever Koller calls you up, make sure you answer. Near the beginning of the game, his main mission will open up a side quest where you can go to retrieve a calibrator from a mob family. I recommend that you do this because later on in the game, Koller will ask you for that calibrator, and he’ll make some adjustments, allowing you to activate all of your augmentations without any consequences.

You Don’t Need to Purchase Hacking Augmentations – Hacking is a very big part of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and this might prompt you to purchase your hacking augmentations early on in the game. You don’t actually have to do that. If you’re willing to sacrifice a bit of weapon customization in favor of more powerful combat and fortification augmentations, you can spend your crafting parts on multi-tools, and save your Praxis points for other useful augmentations. Multi-tools will allow you to hack into any device of any security level, as long as you have the parts for it.

Pocket Secretaries and Emails Will Give You Goodies – Here’s another feature that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided doesn’t tell you about outright. Whenever you come across a door you can’t hack, or a door you need a code for, it’s always worth looking through the pocket secretaries you’ve picked up and the emails you’ve hacked into. Some of these might provide you with valuable entry information that you need to progress.

Saving Your Game Will Save Your Life – Mankind Divided does have an autosave system, but the truth is, the checkpoints in the game just aren’t very good. You’re much better off making your own manual save files whenever you can. You won’t be able to save your game in the middle of combat, but you can save anytime you’re out of enemy sight. I recommend saving your game frequently, especially right before making any big stealthy moves, or jumping into conversations with key NPCs. If thing go south, you can reload your game at any time.

Level 5 Safes are Where the Money’s At – I mean that both literally and figuratively. Level 5 safes can be found all over the world in Mankind Divided, and I highly recommend hacking these whenever you find them. These are usually stocked with valuable credit chips, Praxis kits, and rare weapon mods. If you intend on hacking with multi-tools, definitely grab these safes, as they’ll give you more than enough weapon mods to upgrade your gear and offset the number of crafting parts you’ve put towards creating multi-tools.

You Can Stack Items to Reach High Places – Just like in Human Revolution, you can stack trash cans on top of each other to make a faux staircase that allows you reach inaccessible areas. If you really want to get to that rooftop, go around town and look for boxes to make your life easier. Also, you’ll get bonus experience points for being an explorer.
