The 15 Worst Reviewed Games of 2016 So Far

These games have had a bit of a rough time.

Attractio is a futuristic puzzle-platformer inspired by the likes of Portal. The game released at the beginning of the year on January 19, and scored fairly middling reviews. The game currently sits at a 58 on Metacritic out of 16 critic reviews. The user score almost exactly mirrors that number with a 5.9.

After multiple delays and years of waiting, the spiritual successor to Mega Man, Mighty No. 9 has arrived. Unfortunately, reviews for the game haven’t been exceedingly positive, with reviewers noting the frustrating gameplay among other things. Mighty No. 9 currently sits at a 56 on Metacritic for PS4, out of 22 critics, with PC slightly lower at 50 and Xbox One higher at 60. User score for the game is even lower at a 32, with already 100 ratings for the game.

Anima is an action-RPG that casts you into the role of two different characters, an ancient monster and a young girl who’s lost her memories,  bound by an unwilling pact. The game is in the middle of the road with reviews, staying at a 55 on PS4 out of 10 critics, faring slightly better on Xbox One with a 68, although out of only 5 critics. There’s only about 20 user ratings, although they rank the game slightly higher at a 7.1.

The Park was released on PC in 2015, but didn’t hit consoles until May of 2016. Funcom’s first-person psychological horror game fared a little worse than it did on PC. Reviewers touched on the incredibly short length of the game, although it does have some interesting moments. It currently has a 54 on Metacritic for PlayStation 4 out of 13 critics, and a 65 on Xbox One based on 10 critics. User score is a bit higher averaging between a 6.6 and a 7.2 with around 14 ratings.

A surprise game came out this year, based on the Heroes Reborn television series. The game is set as a prequel to the show, and has an interesting time travelling mechanic built in. Even so, reviews have been mediocre for Gemini. Metacritic has the PC version at a 54 out of 13 critics, the PS4 version at a 57 out of six, and the Xbox One version at a 63 out of 12. User score sits at almost exactly that same score for each system.

Homefront: The Revolution was a bit of a letdown, even though the first game wasn’t exceptionally well received either. Although reviewers tended to like the game’s atmosphere, everything past that seemed repetitive for them. The PS4 version is currently at a 49 on Metacritic out of 37 critics, Xbox One at a 50 out of 11 critics and PC at a 54 out of 45 critics. User score is even worse for the game, dipping down as low as 3.3 on PC and 3.6 on PS4.

After last year’s Transformers: Devastation, fans of Platinum had high hopes for what the developer could do with the Ninja Turtles. Unfortunately, those hopes just didn’t pan out in the best way as reviewers found the game to be disappointing and repetitive. On Metacritic the PS4 version is at a 45 out of 46 critics, and the Xbox One at a 54 out of 12 critics. Users tended to like the game a bit more as that score sits at a 5.4 and 5.6 respectively.
