UPDATE (Feb. 20, 2:13am): Update version 1.02 is finally out, and it fixes the login issue. Metal Gear Survive is now playable on PS4.

UPDATE (Feb. 20, 1:06am): Sony has finally released the version 1.01 patch for Metal Gear Survive, which weighs in at 3.483GB.

UPDATE (Feb. 20, 12:30am): Users are reporting that only PS4 versions of Metal Gear Survive are getting this update issue. At the moment, there’s no fix for this except to wait for the patch to be released on PS4.

Original Story: Metal Gear Survive is the latest spin-off game in Konami’s renowned stealth action franchise. The game’s release date was set for Feb. 20, and was available for pre-load on consoles. Well, it’s Feb. 20 now, and as you might have expected with most pre-ordered games, Survive should’ve been playable at midnight. Bad news, if you pre-ordered the game and have been waiting patiently for midnight: it’s not playable.

When you boot up the game, you’ll have your trophy set installed, as well as a message that lets you know they’re trying to log you in to the server. However, you’ll also be met with a message saying that the game can’t be playable without a day one update, which Konami has yet to release.

What this means is that even though the game has launched, it’s virtually useless until the patch is finally released and available for download. Before that, nothing in the game can be accessed. The single-player campaign is off-limits because of the always-online requirement, and nothing can be done at the time of writing.

It’s frustrating to be sure, and it’s made worse by the fact that Konami has not revealed what time the patch will be released. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more info comes our way.

Metal Gear Survive is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

We’re only about a quarter of the way into the Overwatch League’s inaugural season, and things are already heating up. With Stage 2 coming up this week, we’ll be seeing a rather significant shakeup in the meta, and in team rosters. The midseason signing window was just a couple of weeks ago, and various teams have already made changes to their lineups. Here are the ones we know of so far.

Shanghai Dragons

Kim “Geguri” Se-Yeon, Overwatch League

If there’s one team in the Overwatch League that desperately needed some roster changes, it’s the Shanghai Dragons. The Dragons made two major pickups during the signing season, and they’ve brought on Kim ‘Geguri’ Se-yeon and He ‘Sky’ Junjian. Geguri is known for her prowess as Zarya and other off-tank roles, while Sky was formerly part of the popular Chinese team Miraculous Youngsters. Sky previously went by the moniker ‘Zhufanjun’ and he played support for his team. These are two very important picks for Shanghai because the most of the team’s problems have stemmed from their weak tank line and poor support play.

The Shanghai Dragons have also signed Gi-hyeon ‘Ado’ Chon and Lee ‘Fearless’ Eui-seok. Ado was a projectile DPS player for MVP Space, while Fearless was a tank player on Element Mystic. Both of Shanghai’s current DPS players, Undead and Diya, are skilled at hitscan heroes, but aren’t quite as effective on projectile heroes, so Ado should help with composition flexibility at the very least.

Florida Mayhem

The Florida Mayhem struggled quite a bit in Stage 1 as well, considering that the team didn’t have any available subs. Going forward, things should start looking better for them with the signing of Joonas ‘Zappis’ Alakurtii, Ha ‘Sayaplayer’ Jung Woo, and Kim ‘aWesomeguy’ Sung Hoon.

Zappis is a rather flexible player who can play tank, if the Mayhem ever needs Nevix to flex over to DPS. He’s also a rather good shot-caller, from all accounts, so he could help the Mayhem out in terms of teamwork and coordination. Sayaplayer and aWesomeguy are DPS and tank players respectively. Logix and TviQ are a great DPS duo, but the addition of some much-needed subs will give the Mayhem the flexibility it needs to run more diverse compositions.

Dallas Fuel

The Dallas Fuel performed rather poorly in Stage 1 of the Overwatch League, and the answer to all their problems is… signing even more DPS players, apparently. Dylan ‘aKm’ Bignet was formerly part of Rogue before the team disbanded, and he’s known for playing hitscan heroes.

According to ESPN, Dallas has also managed to acquire Kim ‘Rascal’ Dong-jun from the London Spitfire. Rascal is… another DPS player, though he’s proven to be quite the wildcard during his showing in Stage 1, with unorthodox picks like Mei during escort and assault maps. Rascal is rather proficient with projectile DPS heroes, and considering that the Fuel doesn’t really have a good Genji player at the moment, he could be exactly what the team needs. But we shouldn’t forget about the Fuel’s faltering tank line and support play either. Not to mention their communication issues.

Houston Outlaws

Houston seems to have it all at the moment. They’ve got great tanks, great supports, and a star DPS player in the form of Linkzr. So it came as a bit of a surprise when the team announced that Russell ‘FCTFCTN’ Campbell would be joining the roster. FCTFCTN is know for playing Winston and other tank roles, so he could be a great substitute for Muma if he happens to be having an off-day. He also has a history of playing with Coolmatt and Rawkus during the Overwatch World Cup, so that team synergy should already be there.

All in all, it’s a pretty solid pick for Houston, though we still think Linkzr deserves a good DPS partner to really round up this team nicely.

Los Angeles Gladiators

This isn’t a confirmed trade just yet, but ESPN has also reported that the Los Angeles Gladiators have managed to acquire Chan-hyung ‘Fissure’ Baek from the London Spitfire. If true, this could be really good for the Gladiators.

The team didn’t perform that well in Stage 1, and it was mostly due to their faltering tank line and iRemiix’s insistence on over-extending and dying first in so many team fights. Fissure didn’t get a lot of playtime in Stage 1, but he’s more than capable of running Winston in a main tank role, and he could be a good complement to Bischu’s D.Va.

These are all of the player signings and trades we know of so far, and we’ll be sure to update you when more info is available. Overwatch League Stage 2 is set to kick off this Wednesday evening, so be sure to search for Twinfinite for the latest match updates.

Stage 1 is over and done with, but Stage 2 of the Overwatch League is now upon us. New player signings have been made, team trades have happened, metas have changed, and it’s time for a whole new competitive scene to take place. Stage 2 of the League will run until March 26, where the top teams will compete for a playoffs title. From now until then, we’ll be seeing three matches per day from Wednesday to Saturday.

With the Shanghai Dragons signing a few new players, including off-tank and DPS roles, we should start to see a bit of an upswing in their performance. They’ve got a match coming up against the Dallas Fuel, and we’ll see if this first match marks a comeback for either of these faltering competitors. The Houston Outlaws will be getting a rematch against the London Spitfire, and so will the New York Excelsior. These teams gave us quite a show during the Stage 1 playoffs, and with the Mercy and Junkrat changes now in place, it’ll be fun to see how they stack up against each other.

We’ll be updating this post with the map results for each match-up, along with the team standings, as the week goes on, so be sure to check back for more up-to-date information.

Stage 1 of the Overwatch League has been an absolute blast to watch, even if the finals were rather exhausting. London Spitfire started the day off battling against the New York Excelsior, coming back a few hours later to beat the Houston Outlaws, and then getting a rematch against New York immediately after that. It was an exciting series of matches to watch, but clearly, the League has decided that perhaps playoff matches would go better if they were held on another day instead.

Here are the scheduling changes that will take effect once Stage 2 begins:

  • Stage Finals move to Sundays at 1 p.m. PST
  • Weekday matches now all start at 4 p.m. PST
  • Saturday matches now start at 1 p.m. PST

‘Henceforth the Stage Finals will move to Sunday, separating it from Saturday’s regular-season schedule. This is to help prevent fatigue on the part of players (and fans), and to properly highlight the Stage Finals playoff and championship games. If you’ve already purchased a ticket to the Stage 2 Finals on Saturday, March 24, never fear: if you choose, you will receive a free ticket to Sunday, as well.

We also are standardizing the weekday schedule—matches on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will all kick off at 4 p.m. PST. Additionally, Saturday matches and Stage Finals Sundays will start at 1 p.m. PST.’

With the meta shift coming up in Stage 2, as well as the player trades that are happening right now, Overwatch League matches are sure to start heating up again once it comes back next week.

Level-5 has just released the debut trailer for the upcoming Layton Mystery Detective Agency anime series. The anime style is pretty much identical to what we’ve seen in the games, so fans of the series should be pleased with how it’s shaping up overall. You can check out the trailer for yourself down below.

The story follows the plot of Layton’s Mystery Journey, which was released for mobile devices and the Nintendo 3DS just last year. After Hershel Layton goes missing without any explanation, his daughter Katrielle is determined to find him. She sets up her very own detective agency in London, and the game features multiple cases where she helps to solve mysteries for the people in the city. The stakes get higher as the story continues, and Katrielle begins to inch closer to the truth behind her missing father.

The Layton Mystery Detective Agency anime series is set to debut on Apr. 8 in Japan, though overseas folks should be able to check it out as well on anime networks such as Crunchyroll in the future. Layton’s Mystery Journey is now available on mobile devices and 3DS.

Via an official post on their website, THQ Nordic has announced that it has bought over Koch Media and Deep Silver. According to the announcement, they also now have the “intellectual property rights such as Saints Row, Dead Island and exclusive licence for Metro.”

THQ Nordic has also provided some reasons for the recent acquisition:

‘THQ Nordic has a clear growth strategy and a long and successful history of acquiring game franchises and development studios. In September 2017, THQ Nordic raised SEK 598 million in a directed share issue in order to finance potential acquisitions of franchises, game development studios, publishers or other objects that complement the operations.

Over the last few years, Koch Media has invested a large part of its profits into establishing the current pipeline of games which are due to be released over the coming years. For the investments that have proven less successful, Koch Media has undertaken significant write-downs during the past few years. The product portfolio and current stage of development of core titles in the pipeline provides a strong foundation for future cash flow and profitability for the group.’

Metro: Exodus, which is set to be released sometime this year, will likely have its publishing and distribution handled by THQ Nordic as well.

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and what better way to celebrate than by recounting the most romantic moments in video games? Be warned that this article contains spoilers for the following games: Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, NieR: Automata, The Last of Us: Left Behind, Silent Hill 2, Kingdom Hearts, Shadow of the Colossus, Uncharted 4, and Persona 5.

Squall Carrying Rinoa to Esthar (FFVIII)

Many will point to the iconic ballroom dance scene and say that’s the most romantic moment we’ve seen in Final Fantasy VIII, or perhaps even the whole of the Final Fantasy series. It’s a great scene, but it’s not particularly romantic because Squall and Rinoa are just meeting for the first time; she’s probably there with Seifer, and he doesn’t even know her anyway. All throughout FFVIII, Rinoa is constantly trying to talk to Squall and getting him to open up, but being the stubborn little shit that he is, he brushes her off and dismisses her. That all changes when Rinoa suffers a potentially fatal injury in a fight later on in the game.

Suddenly, Squall doesn’t quite know what to do without her, and it’s here that we begin to see him start to truly change and develop as a character. Refusing to just sit around and do nothing, Squall puts Rinoa on his back and starts walking across the bridge to Esthar in the hopes of finding some way to save her. During the long walk, Squall reflects on his own personality and explains why he’s been shutting himself off from everyone his entire life, even if Rinoa can’t hear him. A lot of this change can be attributed to Rinoa’s presence in his life, and this scene is the true turning point in FFVIII. It’s here that Squall is finally able to be honest with himself about his feelings, and it shows in his determination to save Rinoa. Even though it’d probably be a lot smarter and efficient to just get a car to Esthar or something. But I guess that wouldn’t be very romantic.

Players have recently discovered that Rare’s upcoming pirate adventure game, Sea of Thieves, will be featuring a premium shop where you can shell out real dollars for virtual items. Naturally, this sparked some concern that the game might have loot boxes for different items and gear in the game that could let players get an edge over others. However, Eurogamer has confirmed that this will not be the case.

According to Rare, the game will not feature any loot boxes or any form of microtransactions that will affect player progression. They will be purely cosmetic. In fact, Rare also mentioned that the first inclusions in the premium shop include virtual pets that you can place around your ship, and other players will be able to interact with them as well.

‘”For launch, it’s about delivering the best gameplay experience possible, being there, reacting, listening, taking feedback and everything else,” executive producer Joe Neate stressed.

“But as we move into our service and we start growing and updating the game, at that point we’ll turn on the option for players to optionally spend in there.”

Rare insisted the premium shop will sell nothing that affects player power or progression. Also, you’ll always know what you’re buying, hence no loot boxes.’

Sea of Thieves is set to be released for Xbox One and PC on Mar. 20.

A Hat In Time is a charming little platformer collect-a-thon title that released for consoles late year, and it received quite a bit of positive critical acclaim. Because of its gorgeous graphics and art style, as well as its style of gameplay, you wouldn’t be blamed for thinking that this would be a really good fit for Nintendo’s new hybrid console, the Switch.

Fans of the game think so as well, and it’s no secret that they really want a Switch port. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon. Developing studio Gears for Breakfast took to Twitter to confirm that a Switch port was not in the works, and it doesn’t look like they have plans for such a project anytime soon. It’s a harsh rejection, but at least the developers have made it abundantly clear about the issue, and fans will finally have a clear answer.

That said, if you have a PS4 or an Xbox One, A Hat In Time is available on those consoles now. And if you’re just aching for a collect-a-thon game to play on the Switch, well, there’s always Super Mario Odyssey.

It’s a little surprising that Nintendo didn’t hold this for the launch of the Switch online service, but the company’s just announced the Splatoon 2 Starter Edition. This new re-packaging will be coming to stores in Mar. 16, and it comes with quite a few new goodies as well.

‘The special bundle of the hit Nintendo Switch game includes the full game, a 100-page Splatoon 2 strategy guide to equip you with skills to climb the competitive ranks and two sheets of Splatoon stickers, all at a suggested retail price of only $59.99. That’s the same price as the stand-alone game, so this new Starter Edition adds even more value.’

It’s a pretty good deal, especially when you think about all those sweet stickers you’ll be able to paste all over your Switch. In related news, the next Splatfest will be kicking off this week. In line with Valentine’s Day coming up tomorrow, the theme of the Splatfest is love versus money, and players will have to choose which one is more important to them. Nintendo also recently announced a couple of new Pearl and Marina amiibo which look pretty sweet as well, so there’s plenty to look forward to if you’re a Splatoon fan.

Splatoon 2 is now available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.

Square Enix recently revealed a couple of brand new trailers for Kingdom Hearts III, and they’ve also released a new batch of pretty screenshots for fans to ogle at. Most of these are screens taken out of the trailers we’ve already seen, but it’s still nice to get a crisp look at the upcoming action RPG. You can check out all the new screenshots in the gallery down below.

kingdom hearts iii

From the trailers, we know that Kingdom Hearts III will feature a Monsters Inc. World, a Toy Story world, and a Tangled world. Ariel from The Little Mermaid will also be appearing in the game as a summon for Sora. Well, that’s all very well and good Square Enix, but where’s our Frozen world? Come on now.

Either way, it’s still good to finally get to see even more of this game since it was first revealed five years ago. We should hopefully be getting more information about the game at E3 this year, and fingers crossed that Kingdom Hearts III actually sees its official release sometime in 2018.

The Eorzean Symphony made its debut in Japan late last year, and Square Enix is looking to bring the live music of Final Fantasy XIV to the west this year as well. Via a press release, the company announced that the orchestral concert will be having shows in Los Angeles and Dortmund in June and August respectively.

‘Premiering in Tokyo last September, Eorzean Symphony featured a full-scale symphonic orchestra, choir, renowned soloists, and excerpts from the game projected in sync on a giant screen, for a thrilling and fully immersive audio visual experience. The American and European premiere will feature a very special guest lineup, beginning with Naoki Yoshida (Producer and Director) and Masayoshi Soken (Sound Director and Composer), who together created this new concert experience, and also feature performances by Susan Calloway, the original vocal artist of “Answers” and “Dragonsong.”‘

With last year’s release of the Stormblood expansion, fans can probably expect some pretty good musical pieces from the new arc to get played during the concert as well. Special guests including producer Naoki Yoshida, composer Masayoshi Soken, and vocalist Susan Calloway will also be attending the show. Tickets are already on sale, and you can check them out here.

Final Fantasy XIV is now available on PS4 and PC.

If you’ve been playing through the Shadow of the Colossus remake on PS4, you might have noticed that there are a few golden coins you can pick up all over the world. Fans had speculated that perhaps collecting all of the coins would unlock a secret boss, but it’s nothing so exciting as that.

PS4Trophies has figured it out, and once you collect all 79 collectibles, you’ll unlock a new weapon called the Sword of Dormin. You can check out the footage yourself at the 2 hour 21 minute mark.

You can pick up the sword at the Shrine of Worship, and once equipped, it reduces your health regeneration but increases your damage output. If you’re familiar with the game’s bosses, this could be a good tool to help with clearing a run faster.

It’s possible that this could just be the first step to uncovering an even bigger secret in the game, and we’ll keep you updated as more info comes our way. Shadow of the Colossus is now available on PS4.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will be getting a version 1.3.0 update next week, as announced by Monolith Soft, and translated by Gematsu. The patch will bring about a few quality of life changes, as well as the long-awaited New Game Plus mode that should offer the game even more longevity after you’ve seen all it has to offer.

Here’s what you can expect from the New Game Plus mode:

  • It is possible to befriend Blades on the Torna side as player Blades such as Obrona, Sever, Perdido, and Cressidus.
  • Additionally, Akhos, Patroka, and Mikhail from Torna can be befriended as Blades.
  • All Blade Mercenaries can be dispatched. At the same time, Blades such as Pyra and Mythra that you could not leave your party in your first playthrough can also be dispatched.
  • Unlocks a Driver’s “Reverse Affinity Chart” and adds even further growth.
You can level-down a Driver’s level at inns, as well as earn bonus EXP depending on the lowered level.

Players will also be able to carry over their gold, items, Driver level, equipment, and town development upgrades. All in all, it sounds like a pretty hefty update, and players looking to dive into the adventure a second time have a lot to look forward to.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is now available on the Nintendo Switch.

Over on the official E3 website, it’s been revealed that CD Projekt Red will be one of the participating companies to attend the annual event. We know that The Witcher series is done for now, and the company is currently focusing its efforts on the Gwent card game, so it’s entirely possible that they’re simply gearing up for a new Gwent-related announcement.

Or, on a more exciting note, perhaps they could finally be ready to share more information about a certain elusive sci-fi game called Cyberpunk 2077. We wouldn’t rule out this possibility, especially since the game’s official Twitter account showed some signs of life earlier this year. Alright, all they did was tweet out the word “beep.” But if they’re not teasing some sort of impending reveal, then that’s just mean.

Still, it’s exciting to think about what CD Projekt Red could possibly be bringing to the table this year. We haven’t heard anything new about Cyberpunk 2077 in the last four years, and fans are definitely more than ready to finally see what the developer has been working all this time.

E3 2018 will be taking place from June 12 to 14, and we’ll keep you updated as more info comes our way.

With the drop of patch 4.2 in Final Fantasy XIV, the latest housing expansion followed soon after, bringing with it new hopes for all the Eorzean hobos out there who just want a place to rest their weary heads. Longtime FFXIV players know how much of a headache it is to purchase houses or plots of land in the game. Each time a new housing expansion comes around, it’s usually a bloodbath as everyone frantically tries to log into the game to secure the land. The queues get pretty insane as well.

With the latest expansion, things seem to have gone a little more smoothly. But some players are still ruining the fun for everyone else.

Square Enix announced some changes to the housing situation a while back, stating that Free Companies that wished to purchase land had to have at least four members and be at least rank 6. In addition to that, if a player was part of an FC that already owned an estate, they would not be able to purchase another FC estate in that same world. This applies to all characters under the same service account. Square Enix has also temporarily suspended land purchasing for players who are just looking for personal houses. This has allowed a lot of budding FCs to secure a hall within hours of the patch drop, which is great.

ffxiv

And yet, things still aren’t as smooth as they could be. Already, there are players looking to abuse the new housing rules. As Reddit user Killbray has pointed out, some FCs have taken to creating multiple alts with false FCs to purchase more land. At the moment, the rules are easily abused simply by creating a new FC with the necessary number of members and grinding it out to reach rank 6 before you can purchase a plot of land. Once you’ve got the land, the FC leader can simply kick out the other three members (most likely alts from other players), and they can join another counterfeit FC to repeat the process. It certainly doesn’t help that grinding an FC up to rank 6 isn’t that difficult if you know what you’re doing.

As another reddit user explains,

‘You need 4 people to buy an FC house, but after you’ve bought the house, the FC leader can kick the three others (who can be level 1 alts created just for this purpose) and they can immediately join another FC to help buy another house, and you can repeat this as many times as you want (you’re only limited by the amount of rank 6+ FCs you have).

The penalty on joining another FC does not apply if you are kicked instead of leaving yourself.’

At the moment, the housing crisis isn’t as dire as it used to be, but it’s still problematic. While the exploiting process has been made a little bit more tedious now, and will likely dissuade other players from trying to hog all of the plots right at the start of a housing expansion, it’s the little things like these that make the whole situation frustrating for everyone else. Perhaps the worst part of it all is that this exploit technically isn’t against the housing regulations set in FFXIV. Not to mention that these players are likely just grabbing all these plots for airships or selling them off at marked up prices in the future. It wasn’t all that long ago that Balmung suffered a housing crash, after all.

Square Enix is certainly making strides in improving the FFXIV housing crisis. There are a lot fewer reports of land being snatched up within the first few minutes after maintenance, and the chances for newer FCs to finally secure a nice estate hall are greater than ever. But even so, we’ve still got quite a ways to go before players will finally be satisfied with the game’s housing arrangements. At the moment, it feels like quite the impossible task.

Deck13 and Focus Home Interactive have just announced that The Surge 2 is currently in development, and it’s set to be released sometime in 2019.

The Surge was originally released for consoles and PC in 2017, and it a third-person action RPG that took a lot of cues from From Software’s Soulsborne series, except it had a futuristic sci-fi setting. We reviewed the game here at Twinfinite, and while we did enjoy our time with it, the game still had quite a few kinks to iron out. Even so, it was a good step up from Deck13’s previous action RPG outing, Lords of the Fallen, and it should be interesting to see how they improve on this sequel.

Here’s the announcement from the game’s official Facebook page:

‘With larger and more ambitious level design, more brutal combat, and an expanded limb-targeting system, you’ll need the even larger arsenal and array of abilities to overcome the new enemies and bosses!’

We don’t have any details about the game for now, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as more info comes our way. The Surge 2 is set to be released for consoles (no word about a Switch release just yet) and PC in 2019.

After receiving a little bit of flak over the fact that there isn’t a single female player on any of the teams, ESPN reports that all of that is about to change in the Overwatch League. According to ESPN’s report and their sources, South Korean player Kim Se-yeon is set to join the Shanghai Dragons. She’s more commonly known as Geguri, who mains Zarya and off-tank roles.

In addition to that, the Shanghai Dragons will also be getting two additional South Korean players signed to their roster.

‘South Korean Overwatch off-tank Kim “Geguri” Se-yeon, formerly of ROX Orcas, is set to join Shanghai Dragons in the Overwatch League and become the first female player to join the league, multiple sources close to the players involved and the organization told ESPN.com.

Joining Geguri will be Element Mystic tank captain Lee “Fearless” Eui-Seok and MVP Space flex Cheon “Ado” Ki-hyun, sources said.

The three South Korean players will be joined by a fourth unknown Chinese player to round out the Dragons roster, should the deal go through, sources said.’

More importantly, however, this also means that the Dragons will finally be getting a bit more depth in their roster. As of Stage 1 Week 4, the Dragons have yet to clinch a single victory in the League, and this has been largely due to their poor tank line and supports, as well as a lack of coordination among the players. Bolstering the roster should help them out significantly.

Overwatch League’s inaugural season is currently underway, and Week 5 is set to kick off on Wednesday evening.
