Sony released the first trailer for MLB The Show 18 today, showcasing brief glimpses of gameplay, locations, and The Great Bambino himself.

Developer Sony Interactive Entertainment San Diego Studio broke down the trailer in a PlayStation Blog post with a few changes, including new unique home run celebrations, a revamped hitting engine with improved physics, and atmospheric touches like the “Judge’s Chambers” of Yankee Stadium. The trailer also touts an improved player tagging system and an expansion to the series’ single-player Road to the Show campaign mode.

The developer plans to reveal more of the game through video blogs and Twitch livestreams twice a week until the game’s official launch on March 27. The schedule includes discussing improvements of gameplay, commentary, and Road to the Show.

Pre-order bonuses have also been announced for specific retailers and the PlayStation Store. Pre-ordering from anywhere gives 10 standard packs and one legend card for the Diamond Dynasty mode, and allows players access to the game four days earlier on Friday, March 23. Pre-ordering from GameStop or EB Games gives an additional five standard packs, while the PlayStation Store offers 5,000 Stubs and an exclusive Aaron Judge Rookie Flashback Card for the previous game, MLB The Show 17.

MLB The Show 18 launches on March 27 exclusively for PlayStation 4.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer PUBG Corp. is rolling out one part of the studio’s anti-cheat initiative to the PC version in a new update today.

The patch seeks to block programs that run alongside the game and modifies the game files in a certain way. Some of these programs can give players an unfair advantage though cheats or altering the graphics. ReShade, a popular third-party program that can change the graphics through extra features not present in the original game, will be blocked once the update is live, though the studio notes players will not be banned for having it installed.

“You will not be banned for having it on system but you will no longer be able to play PUBG while it is installed,” wrote community manager PUBG_FWG in a forum post. “Please uninstall ReShade (or any other blocked program) and launch the game again. Some players may find that reinstalling PUBG is also necessary.”

The community manager also wrote that other third-party applications, such as NVIDIA ShadowPlay and other capture software, may be temporarily blocked by the new update. These programs do not affect gameplay, and the developer will be working on restoring functionality as soon as possible. The patch is scheduled to release on Feb. 5 at 9 p.m. ET with no server downtime expected.

The popular PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has become a hotbed for cheaters and hackers since the game’s Steam Early Access release last March, with the game’s BattlEye service reporting 1.5 million account bans at the end of 2017. The service updated the statistic earlier this week with over 1,044,000 bans in the month of January alone, also saying “unfortunately things continue to escalate.” PUBG Corp. outlined its anti-cheat initiative last week, which involves disabling Steam account family sharing, an upgraded in-game report function, and file modification that comes with today’s patch.

Bungie is continuing its transparency with the Destiny 2 player base by announcing changes to the game’s core abilities and weapons, one day after the studio released a detailed roadmap for the next few major updates.

Design lead Josh Hamrick wrote in the company’s weekly blog post how the “Sandbox Team” is currently playtesting a series of updates designed “to provide individual players with more hero moments by increasing overall speed and mobility, increasing the amount of supers you charge to demolish your enemies, and increasing the frequency and impact of our most montage worthy power weapons, especially in the Crucible.”

Known as the “Go Fast Update,” the changes include increasing the cap of players’ ground speed, expanding the range of the mobility stat, and retuning the jump options to be faster. Super abilities recharge faster, while Arcstrider, Sentinel, and Striker gain increased speed while active. Arcstrider has been buffed to be more competitive with faster attack and dodge animations and increased range on all attacks.

Several weapon archetypes, “including, but not limited to, Hand Cannons, Pulse Rifles, Sniper Rifles, and Shotguns,” have been buffed as well to make some power weapons more prevalent. Bungie is also looking to quicken the pace of Crucible matches with decreased player respawn times, reducing the power ammo respawn times across several modes, and allowing power ammo to be dropped on players’ deaths after acquiring it.

The last big change with the update is reverting the Titan’s shoulder charge ability back to before the release of the Curse of Osiris expansion. Bungie nerfed the distance of the ability because the studio believed players used it for its movement rather than damage.

“We believe there are a number of gameplay atoms like this that perform or are used differently than we expected but are thoroughly enjoyed nonetheless,” Hamrick wrote. In the future, we want to embrace the state of gameplay atoms like that and balance around it, not against it.”

Hamrick mentioned these changes are the first part of a series of updates. These sandbox changes are scheduled for the March 27 update, according to the Destiny 2 roadmap, but Hamrick noted the changes are not completely guaranteed to ship.

Blizzard Entertainment announced through the Overwatch Twitter account today that the Lunar New Year seasonal event will return to the game starting next week.

The Year of the Dog event begins Feb. 8 with no end date announced yet. No other details were given in the announcement other than its starting date.

The Lunar New Year event in Overwatch began last year with the Year of the Rooster, which added 124 new cosmetic items and introduced the Capture the Flag arcade brawl into the game. The Lijiang Tower map received a festive reskin for the duration of the event. If the returning Summer Games, Halloween, and Winter Wonderland events are any indication, all the cosmetic items from Year of the Rooster will be available to receive in limited-time loot boxes or purchase from the Hero Gallery with in-game currency at a lower price than the new items coming with Year of the Dog.

Blizzard recently added over 100 new items to Overwatch last month alongside the Blizzard World theme park map. No new event was tied to the accessory dump, which were obtainable through the normal loot crate. The same month, the company also added cosmetic skins representing all 12 Overwatch League teams for every hero that can only be bought through real money.

Destiny 2 developer Bungie has published a more informative roadmap concerning new features coming to the game in future updates.

Bungie had provided a huge, rough outline for the game’s upcoming updates a few weeks ago, explaining the studio planned to fix lingering issues and expand with more content for all players. The major updates were separated into four dates throughout 2018: Jan. 30, February, Spring, and Fall. The new roadmap comes after the first update went live yesterday, adding Masterwork armor and reworking rewards for the Leviathan Raids.

“Everything you’ll find below will be delivered to every player of Destiny 2,” wrote game director Christopher Barrett in the post. “Some of these delivery dates may change, but everything you see listed here is being worked on by the team.”

Destiny 2 Roadmap

The next update, version 1.1.3, is slated for Feb. 27 and plans to add scoring to the Nightfall Strike, alongside a “stretch goal” to add more unique rewards to the activity. The patch will also add a public text chat for the PC version and allow other Fireteam members to be shown on the map.

The 1.1.4 version comes a month later on March 27 with a focus on the Crucible and Strikes. The PvP side will gain a 6v6 Iron Banner mode, gameplay tuning, and quitter penalties while Heroic Strikes will add modifiers. The patch will also prevent players from repeating the same maps and missions.

The May update drops alongside the third season with a Prestige version of the Leviathan, Eater of Worlds raid, which the normal version was introduced in December 2017. Bungie also plans to add private matches, seasonal Crucible rankings, more vault space, Masterwork exotics, and a stretch goal to improve the mod system.

Rockstar Games is the newest publisher with its own Humble Bundle today, containing 11 games and add-ons such as most of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, Max Payne, and L.A. Noire.

The first tier includes Max Payne, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Manhunt for at least one dollar. Paying more than the average price adds Max Payne 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, L.A. Noire, and Bully: Scholarship Edition. The last tier unlocks Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, L.A. Noire: DLC Bundle, and Max Payne 3 with its season pass for $15 or more.

All games and DLC are for the PC and come with Steam keys. There are some restrictions to be wary of before buying this Humble Bundle. For example, Manhunt is not available in Australia, Cuba, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Sudan, and Yemen. Also, Grand Theft Auto IV still supports Games for Windows – Live even though Microsoft discontinued the service in 2014. There are mods to get around the service if logging into an Xbox Live account does not work.

Unlike past Humble Bundles where purchases can be split between multiple charities, all of Rockstar’s proceeds will be going to The Rainforest Alliance. This non-governmental organization operates in more than 70 countries to conserve biodiversity in forests and wildlife through land-use and business practices.

Bungie released an update for Destiny 2 today adding more options to customize gear, receive more rewards from Raids, and bug fixes.

The biggest addition of the update is Masterwork armor, allowing players to get the same gear with better stats. Any legendary armor can be upgraded to Masterworks for five Masterwork Cores and 20 Legendary Shards, which grants the piece another stat package – Heavy, Light, or Restorative – and a 3% damage resistance for each armor equipped while players are in a Super ability. The stats on Masterwork armor can be rerolled and have a higher drop rate on Trials of the Nine and raid activities, like Masterwork weapons introduced last December.

Other changes include new mods with Raid-specific perks, reducing the amount of XP needed to earn an Illuminated Engram, Prometheus Lens rework, and increased the chance of receiving exotics from Heroic Strikes. Check out the full patch notes, via Bungie, below. Also with the update today, the Iron Banner event returns with more weapons and other exclusive items.

This is the first of four major updates Bungie has planned for Destiny 2 in 2018. The next update is scheduled for February, and will focus on reworking the mod system to “reducing redundant mods, more unique theming, and greatly increasing their impact on your power.”

Electronic Arts announced the Madden NFL 18 results to its annual Super Bowl winner prediction between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles today.

According to the simulation done in Madden NFL 18, the Patriots will win against the Eagles with a score of 24-20. The game predicts that the Eagles will take the early lead, but Patriots will lead going into halftime. The two teams trade touchdowns back and forth until the Patriots fumble the ball in the final two minutes, but the Eagles could not score a touchdown on the final play to win the game. Check out the highlights in the video below.

EA predicted last year in Madden NFL 17 that the Patriots would beat the Atlanta Falcons 27-24, but the final score was 34-28. The company has simulated the results using the latest Madden NFL game since Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004, and have been right more times than wrong with only one prediction with a perfect score.

Super Bowl 52 takes place on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m. ET at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Microsoft revealed today the next four Xbox Games With Gold games that Xbox Live Gold members can download for free in February 2018.

Shadow Warrior, the 2013 remake of the 1997 game made by 3D Realms, headlines the list and is available for the entire month of February on Xbox One. The other Xbox One title is the 2.5D side-scrolling platform game Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India. The Assassin’s Creed spin-off will be available starting Feb.16 until March 15.

The two Xbox 360 games for the month feature manic driving under totally different circumstances. Arcade racing game Split/Second, featuring fast driving and stunts to win cash for a reality TV show, can be downloaded starting Feb. 1 until Feb. 15.

Sega’s arcade and Dreamcast classic Crazy Taxi rounds out the list with fast driving and stunts for simply cash on Feb. 16 until the end of the month. Like past Games With Gold lineups, both Xbox 360 titles can be downloaded and played on Xbox One through backward compatibility.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has now been played by over four million players since it launched last month on Xbox One, Microsoft announced today.

This comes two weeks after the game reached three million players exactly one month after releasing in the Xbox Game Preview program on Dec. 12. Microsoft, which is publishing the Xbox One version, is celebrating the new milestone by giving out 30,000 Battle Points (BP) to all players.

“Anyone who has purchased or purchases PUBG on Xbox One and has created a character before January 31 at 12AM PST will receive this bonus, so if you’ve been waiting to jump onto the island, now is the perfect time to become a part of our growing community on console,” the company said on its official blog.

Players should expect to receive their free gift of in-game currency after Feb. 1 at 3 a.m. ET. The Xbox One version received its sixth update earlier this week, adding an auto-run function and more control options for inventory.

]]>
Bluehole Studio released a patch for the PC version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds this week that aims to increase the game’s performance by changing how players meet before a match begins.

Before the patch, the pre-game lobby consisted of all 100 players spawning into a small section of a map. Players were free to run around, shoot weapons, or be generally obnoxious if voice chat was turned on. The recent update changed the one starting location into multiple areas.

“Lots of interaction among multiple players in such a small area had a high impact on the servers,” Bluehole Studios wrote in the update notes. “To solve this, we have introduced multiple areas where players gather before the match start.”

Additionally, the developer removed all weapons from the starting island. “As a result, the performance, both server and client-side, has improved,” noted the studio.

Bluehole Studio also announced that it will be testing a new anti-cheat measure on the test servers at a later date. The security solution is currently still in development, but the studio wants to “start gathering some data regarding it’s stability and compatibility.”

Cheaters have become a huge problem for the popular PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, with the number of bans reaching up to six digits in a single weekend. BattlEye, the game’s anti-cheat service, reported the total number of bans was 1.5 million by the end of 2017, nine months since the game launched in Steam Early Access last March.

Little Inferno developer Tomorrow Corporation announced its newest game, 7 Billion Humans, coming to Nintendo Switch and PC.

The game is billed as a sequel to the studio’s visual programming-based puzzler Human Resource Machine released in 2015. This “thrilling followup” allows the player to create programs to control swarms of people to solve puzzles, instead of just one avatar from the original. Check out brief glimpses of gameplay on the game’s official website.

Tomorrow Corporation released the first trailer for 7 Billion Humans, posted below, showcasing the basic premise of the game. The entire human workforce has been replaced by machines and now have no means of making money, except for one gigantic office building offering jobs completing basic tasks alongside others to make up a parallel computer. From the trailer alone, the new game seems to retain the washed out look and dark, satirical humor of Human Resource Machine and Little Inferno.

7 Billion Humans has been announced for Nintendo Switch and Steam, though no release date has been confirmed yet.

Multiplayer survival game Rust is finally launching after four years in Steam Early Access on Feb. 8, Facepunch Studios announced in a blog post.

The studio clarified that while the game will reach 1.0 status, it is far from complete. The developer will continue to work on Rust, but it is stable enough now to take off the Early Access tag.

“Part of leaving Early Access is making the development more stable,” Facepunch Studios said in the post. “That means that not rushing in features and fixes that end up breaking something else. For that reason we’re going to be transitioning to monthly updates.”

On Feb. 8, Rust will be split into two branches: main and staging. The staging branch will offer daily updates to the game, while the main branch is the less updated and “stable” version. Both versions can be installed at the same time, with the plan to have one or two staging servers to test updates for the main branch at the end of each month. Rust will also increase in price after launch, from $19.99 to $34.99.

The Fall Part 2: Unbound is set to launch for PC and consoles on Feb. 13, developer Over The Moon announced.

The sequel to 2014’s The Fall begins immediately after the first game with A.R.I.D., a rogue A.I. that was separated from its host with a new mission to save itself. A.R.I.D. can now posses new hosts, such as “a reality-divorced Butler” and “a mysterious combat drone, known as ‘One.'” Check out the launch trailer showing off gameplay below.

“With The Fall Part 2: Unbound, our goal is to give players a deeper level of gameplay and story integration than they have ever seen,” said John Warner, Over The Moon CEO, in a press release. “Our newest trailer highlights a strange and unsettling section of the game, during which players possess a robot designed to pleasure humans, only twist and manipulate her into hurting others to obtain their goal.”

The game was originally set to release in late 2017, but the developer delayed the project a few months. The studio said it would be “suicide” for an indie game to launch alongside the busy holiday season of AAA games, and have spent the extra time to polish the game and give it a marketing campaign.

The Fall Part 2: Unbound launches for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One on Feb. 13.

Over 100 new cosmetic items will be coming to Overwatch on Jan. 23, Blizzard Entertainment announced in a blog post.

The new items will include emotes, player icons, skins, sprays, and more for all 26 heroes. Every item added on Jan. 23 can be obtainable through standard loot boxes or purchased with in-game currency from the Hero Gallery menu. Blizzard will be revealing the Overwatch cosmetics over the next week until release, starting with chibi-styled hero sprays.

Blizzard also showed off eight legendary skins, which were revealed during BlizzCon 2017 last November, and player icons for each hero in the blog post as well. Some of the skins include Widowmaker as Starcraft’s Nova and Zarya as Diablo’s Sonya.

No new event has been announced yet alongside the new cosmetic additions, since the Year of the Rooster event began on Jan. 24 last year. Although, the Chinese New Year for 2018 does not start until Feb. 16 as it is the Year of the Dog, so Overwatch’s Lunar New Year event might be scheduled around that time.

Also coming on Jan. 23 is Blizzard World, a new map featuring attractions of the company’s other franchises.

Microsoft announced today it is adding eight more games to its Xbox Game Pass subscription service in February. Starting Feb. 1, these Xbox One and Xbox 360 games will be available for members to download and play:

  • Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition
  • Fable Anniversary
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Letter Quest: Grimm’s Journey
  • NBA 2K17
  • Rime
  • Riptide Renegade GP
  • WWE 2K17

Halo Wars 2 is the most prolific addition to this month’s batch considering it launched in February 2017, almost one year ago. Although, Microsoft did add Gears of War 4 to the catalog a year after it released last December.

While Microsoft has continually added new games to the Xbox Game Pass library every month since the service began in June 2017, only one game in the service has been announced with a temporary lifespan. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, added last November, will be leaving the service on Jan. 31. No specific reason was given at the time for the three-month addition, so members only have two weeks left to enjoy Konami’s action-adventure stealth game.

Update: According to an official message from Microsoft sent to Xbox Live members, WWE 2K16 will be leaving the Xbox Game Pass service on Jan. 31 alongside Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.Xbox Game Pass

Electronic Arts released the patch notes for 1.1 update to Star Wars Battlefront II, offering a few new pieces of content and a long list of balance changes.

The latest patch adds the Crait map, a Galactic Assault map introduced last December alongside other content from The Last Jedi, to the Blast game mode. Iden Versio, the protagonist to the game’s story mode, is also now available to play as a Hero Starfighter. Her vehicle is a modified TIE Fighter with a temporary speed boost, laser barrage, dual proton torpedoes, and the Inferno Leader abilities. New Star Cards and milestones for Iden Versio have been added as well.

The patch notes contain balance changes for heroes, classes, and Galactic Assault. Finn and Boba Fett received decreased damage for specific weapons, while Phasma’s F-11D now has reduced heat per shot. The full patch notes can be found here.

Star Wars Battlefront II is now available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
