Top 10 Best Fighters in Dragon Ball FighterZ

There are many ways Dragon Ball FighterZ pays homage to the anime series that has inspired it and making Cell such a well rounded character is certainly one of those ways. Perfect Cell is one of the most powerful villains the series has seen and he’s a great pick to have on your team in Dragon Ball FighterZ as well. Cell is a versatile fighter who can easily dominate his opponent at both long and short range. He has great normals that can be linked together and his collection of lows are just great for prolonging combos. One of the best tools at Cell’s disposal is Telekinesis Crush, a full screen, unblockable command grab.

While the animation before this move is a bit too telling and can give your enemy too much time to adjust, it’s also easy to disguise the animation if you’re playing smart. Dragon Ball FighterZ is a game that just has a lot going on on the screen at one time so it’s easy to find a moment where the other player may miss the tell and fall victim to what is probably one of the best ways to get a combo started with Cell. As if all this wasn’t enough, Cell’s Hell Strike gives him a free teleport that doesn’t require the use of any bars, so you can use this to be the king of cross ups or just use it as a get out of the corner free card. Either way, Cell simply has so much going for him that he can fit into any play style and still be a major force to reckon with.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory on PS4

The first Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth game was nothing short of a delightfully unexpected surprise that earned tons of brownie points for exceeding the relatively low expectations I had for it. My expectations were no reflection of how I felt about the Digimon franchise but rather my way of coming to terms with the simple reality that most turn-based monster-collecting JRPGs follow a formula that so rarely offers up big surprises.

Most of the time you just know what you’re going to get and asking for more is like asking your grandmother to change the recipe of a generations-old sweet potato pie. As much as you’d love to ask for a little extra sugar and spice, you also know you’re not going to get it and you’re still pretty happy with the original recipe anyway. If the first Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth game was the age-old pie recipe that put a warm smile on your face, consider Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory to be the result of your grandmother finally deciding to add just a tad more nutmeg and sugar to that same old recipe.

At first glance, Hacker’s Memory seems almost identical to its predecessor. So much so that when you first hop into the game, the only thing that assures you that this isn’t the exact same game is a menu that asks if you’d like to transfer any save data from the previous title. From the game’s recycled UI to the oddly catchy techno-pop music on repeat in the background, Hacker’s Memory wastes no time in trying to capitalize on familiarity. It brings players to a point in time they have visited before but with a new blank-faced protagonist and plenty of new Digimon. This is an approach to a sequel that comes with its own unique set of challenges, and this entry seems to have its fair share of both successes and failures in this arena.

Rather than selecting the gender of a brand new character who is being introduced to this futuristic world, players will fill the shoes of Keisuke Amazawa. Keisuke, much like our previous Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth protagonist, is seeing his life dramatically impacted by the blurred lines between cyberspace and the physical world. In Keisuke’s case, his EDEN account has been stolen by hackers, which caused him to be accused of a crime he didn’t commit. Now he is joining up with a highly respected hacker squad in an effort to clear his name while also tackling the various challenges plaguing this new and mysterious digital space.

At the start of the game, the narrative seems to be pretty forced. In an effort to be deeply layered and complex, the story sometimes just feels convoluted and poorly thought out. The good news, however, is that the story arc doesn’t stay that way. Give it some time, be forgiving of minor pacing issues, and you’ll be rewarded with a narrative that finally starts to come together as long as you understand the events that took place in the previous game.

You will start to understand that while Keisuke is an underwhelming protagonist, he was actually meant to be that way. His lackluster presence allows the rest of the cast to shine. He is not meant to be the dramatically gifted hero. His purpose is to serve as the easily digestible common ground between two separate narratives taking place in the exact same world.

But once the charm of this new story starts to wear thin and the cameos from past characters are far less fascinating, Hacker’s Memory starts to expose its flaws. One of the unique challenges with this approach to a sequel is making the game still feel like a sequel despite taking place in the exact same place and at the exact same time. Hacker’s Memory takes players through an identical version of EDEN and even the so-called new spaces are just slightly remixed versions of the first game’s blue block aesthetic. Every now and then spaces will shake things up by recoloring the blocks, but once you’ve seen one area of EDEN you have essentially seen it all. This makes venturing around this digital space far less exciting after you have already poured a few hours into the game. Somehow both of these Digimon titles have managed to make the idea of an entire Internet world seem bland and repetitive — much like their gameplay.

Hacker’s Memory does actually feature a combat system that feels far more fine tuned. Small balancing changes are nice to see and the addition of the Dominion Battles mark an effort to make the combat feel fresh. Dominion Battles give combat a slightly new feel by actually pitting you against other hackers as you compete for control of a certain space. The battles themselves feel very much the same but essentially your objective to claim victory is varied a bit by focusing on a series of team battles rather than just one combat interaction. But what good are these balancing tweaks and new combat modes if victory is so easy to attain that you hardly have to consider what’s new? Unless you’re engaging in a boss battle you’ll find yourself easily making work of the other Digimon in your path. For this very reason, side quests start to feel too much like a chore. You understand you have to do them for the sake of raking in some more yen, grinding for your Digimon, or even just for the sake of enjoying lighthearted dialogue between characters, but overall there is a very small handful of these tasks that feel fulfilling upon completion.

By being so much of the same, Hacker’s Memory makes the same missteps of the previous title in terms of repetitive gameplay and a few missed opportunities to create a great story as opposed to a good, charming one. Where this game copies the shine of the previous title, however, is in its focus on the Digimon. Any Digimon game should still, at the end of the day, be all about the Digimon. Hacker’s Memory not only introduces new Digimon, but it ensures that our favorite digital creatures still look just as amazing as they did before. The battle animations and overall look of the Digimon in the game are eye catching and beautiful. Hacker’s Memory frequently makes great use of vivid colors, which allows the Digimon to really pop on screen. There are also new evolution paths to follow, which open up new ways to get to new Digimon. This won’t eliminate your need to dedicate some time to grinding and farming, but it will at least make all your hard work feel all the more worth it.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory exists in an odd space where it feels difficult to call it a sequel but just as difficult to underestimate what it adds to the Digimon Story lineup. It feels so much like the original that even its few new additions like new Digimon and Dominion Battles start to slowly but surely feel less impactful over time. All the same charm, quirks, and missteps of the original game are captured all over again in Hacker’s Memory but for a full $59.99 price tag it just feels like this sequel could have, and should have, brought more to the table. But if you’ve completed the first game and feel like you still need more Digimon Story in your life, Hacker’s Memory will be an enjoyable journey. You just have to set your expectations to understand that this game is not for those who didn’t enjoy the first game and it’s also not for those who want to see the previous game dramatically elevated. It’s an option for those who were already happy with the sweet potato pie of the past but were always curious to see if that very same recipe could get just a little bit sweeter.

Score: 3.5/5 – Fair

Pros

  • Digimon and battle animations look great
  • Plenty of new Digimon and evolution paths
  • Dominion Battles and online play
  • Small balancing tweaks are nice to see

Cons

  • Too much reused and recycled content
  • Battles are so easy that the polished combat rarely gets to shine
  • Pacing feels off at times

Piccolo vs. Android 17

If you’re a Dragon Ball Z fan that didn’t necessarily throw yourself into every single episode, you might not remember Piccolo being anything more than Gohan’s glorified babysitter. Piccolo is an iconic figure in Dragon Ball Z but many forget that he actually was an incredibly strong fighter. Dragon Ball Z is filled with inconsistencies and the treatment of Piccolo’s strength is one of its greatest. There were so many moments when the series seemed to completely neglect how powerful Piccolo was promised to be. After all, he’s the main one who raised Gohan to be the strong fighter we know him to be. But when Android 17 arrived with full intentions of wreaking havoc, we finally got to witness Piccolo show up and show out.

Piccolo vs. Android 17 was one of the best fights of the entire series simply because the two fighters were so evenly matched. Piccolo took his weighted cloak off, tossed it aside like the coolest Namekian you’ll ever meet, and at that moment Dragon Ball Z fans knew that whatever fight was ahead was going to be a good one. Piccolo and Android 17 went blow for blow and the exchanges created a battle that looked like violent choreography with each one taking turns snagging the upper hand. Android 17 was a massive threat and we finally got to see Piccolo be realized as an equally as competent fighter. As if that wasn’t enough to make this one of the best moments in Dragon Ball Z history, this fight also ended with a surprise guest appearance. Before a victor could emerge from Piccolo and Android 17’s battle, Cell shows up and absorbs the android.

Gintama

Gintama is perhaps one of the most unique anime of the entire shounen genre both in its approach to developing a narrative to the cast of characters that manage to be hilarious and meaningful all at the same time. Gintama exists in the gray area between your usual anime series and a more episodic creation that is self-contained in each individual episode. If you are looking for an anime with a consistent plot that has a very specific narrative throughout the entire series, Gintama isn’t for you. You shouldn’t, however, assume that Gintama’s silly nature and somewhat episodic feel means this anime has been haphazardly tossed together or that it won’t be engaging enough to pull you deep into its grasps.

In less than 30 minutes, Gintama proves that with the right writing style, a heavy dose of comedy, an outstandingly diverse cast of characters, and a fight over a sukiyaki pot can actually be more entertaining than an ominous plot about how evil doers hope to destroy the world. If you’re looking for an anime that simply has comedy as its main focus but somehow still manages to capture some of the best elements of traditional action anime (while also constantly weaving in great satirical content about samurai-focused series), this is the unique creation you’ve been looking for.

Marvel’s Spider-Man

There have been plenty of Spider-Man games over the years but Marvel’s Spider-Man stands out from the rest by focusing on a more experienced Peter Parker. The game’s narrative won’t have to spend any time walking through Spider-Man’s origin story or portray Peter Parker as a new hero who is still struggling to make the best use of his new abilities. Instead, trailers have revealed everyone’s favorite web-slinging New Yorker skillfully taking on criminals and finding creative ways to interact with the environment to gain the upper hand in combat.

Ever since the first preview trailer showcased blockbuster action sequences and a sneak peek at the beautiful open world players will get to explore at their own leisure, many gamers have been anxiously waiting for more information. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a ton of new details revealed and an official release date still hasn’t been announced. While the game is slated to release in 2018, it’s very likely that we won’t actually see it hit shelves until the second half of the year.

Kingdom Hearts 3

It’s a pretty safe bet that Kingdom Hearts 3 is actually the most highly anticipated game of 2018 and it certainly should be. The road to Kingdom Hearts 3 has been a long and trying one as fans have been anxiously waiting more than a decade to check back in with Sora and the gang. Kingdom Hearts is one of the move beloved game franchises of all time and it takes place in a universe filled with the most beloved Disney characters and worlds of all time, which makes the wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 feel even longer.

Fortunately, last year’s D23 gave the world the gift of a new trailer that shows Sora, Donald, and Goofy back together again as they explore the world of Toy Story. The trailer delivered on nostalgia but also showed off combat and featured Sora hopping inside a mech toy to mow down toy-sized Heartless. The Kingdom Hearts franchise features one of the best narratives of all time and the adventure is finally slated to continue in 2018.

While previous Legend of Zelda games didn’t seem to fall into the best RPGs category, Breath of the Wild seems to push the game to the boundary between adventure game and RPG. The beautifully crafted open world takes exploration to a new level for the franchise and the combat is both challenging and engaging. This is a game that simply gets it right in every way from its fantastic puzzles to a mysterious narrative that incentivizes you to keep exploring.

It’s hard to find an best RPGs on Nintendo Switch that has more content and hours of enjoyment to offer than Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This game delivers on all fronts in a way that is sure to please any best RPGs lover. If you’re a stickler for an in-depth combat system, obsessed with a good narrative with a solid cast of characters, or just want to explore a sprawling world that has a lot to discover, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will keep you captivated for more than 70 hours of gameplay.

Combining the iconic world of Mario with the whacky universe of the Rabbids sounds like one crazy idea. After seeing just how well Mario and the gang work together with this personality-packed group of Rabbids, this crossover feels long overdue. It’s truly the tactical RPG success story that nobody saw coming. Next to the sheer amount of personality and delightful quirkiness the title provides, the variety in gameplay in one of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle’s best qualities. With so many characters under your control and various skill sets to take advantage of, there are plenty of different ways to approach every scenario. It’s also refreshing to see Mario in a game with boss battles that feel as satisfying as this. Taking down bosses in Mario games is typically a very easy task that makes victory feel inevitable rather than rewarding. In Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, however, the boss battles are challenging and fresh in this best RPGs on Nintendo Switch. Just in case you want to share the fun with a friend, there are even co-op challenges you can unlock along the way.

On the surface, you would hardly expect Stardew Valley to be such a truly enjoyable game on Nintendo Switch. This farm-simulator is blended with meaningful best RPGs elements in a seamless way. Just as much as you’ll be focused on your farming duties, you’ll also find yourself getting wrapped up in relationships with other townspeople and needing to complete crucial side quests. There are a lot of layers to Stardew Valley that would even appeal to players who aren’t big fans of the farming simulator genre. You will want to take your time with Stardew Valley to really experience all the game has to offer. That could be wanting something as simple as seeing all your hard work pay off on the farm or perhaps you’re far more interested in learning more about all the personalities that exist around you or even just discovering more about the world you inhabit. There is a lot to do and a lot of charm to take in. Anyone who is a fan of games like Animal Crossing and and Harvest Moon will easily be able to find room in their hearts for Stardew Valley.

If you laid eyes on the title of this game and immediately lost interest, I can’t recommend heavily enough that you actually give Golf Story a chance. As someone who has never managed to actually enjoy any golf simulator game, I was shocked to find myself enjoying this golf simulator, best RPGs on Nintendo Switch hybrid. The story here is pretty watered down and basic but everything else in this game makes up for that. The old-school visuals appeal to your nostalgia in the best way possible and the entire world around you is incredibly charming and easy to fall in love with. What won me over was the simple fact that there was so much more to this game than just the golf — which isn’t that bad either. It’s a lot simpler than other golf games but for anyone who isn’t crazy about golf games it’s kind of refreshing to not have to put yourself in an actual golfer state of mind to do well in this game. But Golf Story even introduces fun side activities and challenges that sprinkle the right amount of variety to gameplay. This story-driven golf simulator complete with humor, opportunities for free-roaming, and the sheer goofiness of the many of the side missions all come together for the sake of one surprisingly endearing success.

When it was announced that Nintendo was ready to introduce the first true hybrid console, you couldn’t help but wonder what games would be the perfect match for this type of platform. Well, Disgaea 5 Complete on Nintendo Switch is definitely one of those games that feels perfect for the Switch. This tactical best RPGs on Nintendo Switch has plenty of content to dive into and with a cast of characters this silly you’ll easily enjoy every minute of it. The story that brings all these personalities together may be a bit watered down and overly simplistic, but the experience still manages to be both charming and hilarious. What makes the game such a great fit for the Switch is that its campaign, visually speaking, just doesn’t have a lot going on. The story is carried on mostly through cutouts of characters and dialogue boxes so at no point does Disgeae 5 Complete  introduce any performance issues for the Switch. You’ll enjoy the combat, the quirkiness, the silly character design, and the bountiful hours of gameplay that you can now experience on the go.

Gintama: Silver Soul Arc

Top 10 Best Anime of January 2018 You Should Watch

It’s a bitter sweet day in the world of anime. Gintama is reaching its final arc in Gintama: Silver Soul. The entire Gintama series has more than 200 episodes under its belt and has garnered a massive fanbase with each and every one. From the very start Gintama was a bit of a surprising anime for anyone who hadn’t already read the manga. An anime about aliens in feudal Japan, a negative attitude towards swords that has samurai living with little to no respect from others, and a goofy errand boy that still possesses the heart of the samurai just wasn’t supposed to be this good. Here we are 10 years later still eagerly following Gintoki Sakata and the gang on an adventure that is filled with just as much hilarious wackiness as it is intense action and epic battles. In this arc, Utsuro’s plan to spark a deadly war that would ultimately destroy earth has been unveiled and the clock is ticking for anyone who wants to stop him. Our familiar heroes are forced to look for aid from unlikely sources, but their strength alone simply won’t be enough to put an end to Utsuro’s devastating death wish.

The post Hi-Rez COO Further Explains Differences Between PUBG and Paladins: Battlegrounds appeared first on Twinfinite.

]]>
One of the biggest announcements out of HRX 2018 thus far has been the unveiling of Paladins: Battlegrounds — the battle royale game mode headed to Hi-Rez’s hero-based shooter. Paladins: Battlegrounds will scatter 100 players in teams of four across a massive map and challenge them to eliminate players on the enemy teams until they are the last ones standing. While the game mode sounds fun, it also sounds a bit too familiar for many players’ liking. It didn’t take long after the reveal trailer was released for comparisons to PUBG to start popping up, which would mark the second time Paladins was accused of ripping off another game by some fans.

During an interview with Twinfinite, Hi-Rez COO Todd Harris addressed the PUBG comparisons by not only explaining the differences between the games but also by emphasizing what the games have in common. “The first point is that our perspective is that battle royale is really a mode and not a game,” Harris explained. “So in the same way that many games have team deathmatch but the core mechanics in gameplay is different, that’s what we think is going to happen with battle royale.”

Both PUBG and Paladins: Battlegrounds will have the same objective with the same amount of people in the game and both will take place on massive, sprawling maps. According to Hi-Rez devs, however, the similarities don’t go much further than that. “What makes this mode stand out in Paladins is that Paladins is a hero-based shooter,” Harris added. “The core of those mechanics are very different than a traditional shooter.” Paladins: Battlegrounds keeps the use of hero classes at its core so this battle royale game mode still has team work at its foundation.

In addition to focusing on team work and hero classes, Harris explained that Paladins: Battlegrounds is taking the battle royale mode to a fantasy-based map that features mounts. The idea is that this game mode will still feel more like a “fantasy MMO and not like you’re going into an urban shooter environment.” This changes the art and aesthetic that players can expect from Paladins: Battlegrounds when compared to PUBG.

Another difference between the games that Harris stressed was what players will use within each match to become more powerful. In a game like PUBG, picking up new gear and weapons give players the upper hand. In Paladins: Battlegrounds, players will be collecting various items that range from common to legendary that create a more MMO feel overall. By ignoring these kinds of differences, devs feel like it will be easy for players to take a “cursory look” at the new game mode and make some of the wrong comparisons. Harris even acknowledged that the PUBG comparisons are reminiscent to the wave of controversy that hit Paladins upon release when players felt like the game was a copy cat version of Overwatch. Despite the comparisons, devs feel confident that as people give the game mode a try they will see just how different it actually is from other games in the same genre.

With so much of comparisons focusing solely on PUBG but skimming over games like Fortnite, it’s also very likely that the similar titles are responsible for much of those cursory looks. Releasing a game mode called “Battlegrounds” in the midst of all the PUBG hype is a particularly risky move, but both Harris and Hi-Rez President Stew Chisam stand behind the title for a very simple reason. It’s simply the most accurate way to describe this particular game mode and set expectations for new players. Chisam explained that “battlegrounds” is a generic term that simply describes a type of game and that’s exactly why it can’t be trademarked. Harris agreed with the statement and explained that the title lets players know that “it’s probably a big map, there’s probably a lot of people, it’s probably like the last one standing.”

Since Paladins: Battlegrounds, just like its base game, is free to play, Harris believes that enough players will dive in and see the differences and the game’s roots will grow organically by word of mouth. Much of the Overwatch controversy died out over time this way and it’s very likely that the new battlegrounds mode in Paladins will see the same results if there is truly enough there to warrant Hi-Rez’s claims that this a unique battle royale experience all its own.

HRX 2018 was filled with plenty of new announcements for Paladins and SMITE fans. Paladins players can look forward to the battlegrounds and deathmatch game modes, a new map for the deathmatch game mode, getting their hands on the game’s 35th champion Moji, and riding into battle on the new battle cat mounts. For SMITE players, the reveal of the game’s 93rd playable character Cerberus, the first look at two new upcoming pantheons, highly requested changes to gameplay, and the new season 5 Conquest map emerged as the stars of the HRX 2018 keynote. But in the midst of all the reveals and teaser trailers, there was never a moment when guests could doubt what people were really storming the doors for. HRX is all about the esports and there were five new champions crowned at the expo over the weekend.

HRX 2018 featured tournaments for SMITE on console, SMITE on PC, Paladins on console, Paladins on PC, and a special founders tournament for the studio’s new game Hand of the Gods. Here are all the teams and players who fought valiantly during HRX and have now been crowned world champions.

SMITE Console Finals – Myth Gaming

The SMITE Console World Championship Finals wrapped up on January 6 and ended with Myth Gaming emerging victorious over Astral Authority. Myth Gaming wasn’t the favored team for this set but they were living proof that a great team doesn’t need favor on their side to dominate the scene. Myth Gaming exploited Astral Authority’s mistakes time and time again, taking the crown after a clean 3-0 sweep. Jumpahhh’s showed off his flexibility and held his team down with three different characters, utilizing three different play styles. It was a performance that earned him this year’s MVP title for the SMITE Console World Championship.

SMITE PC Finals – EUnited

The SMITE World Championship came down to Team Rival and EUnited. The match up put a lot of pressure on EUnited’s shoulders as this was their chance to end the dry spell that North American teams have had at the SMITE World Championship. A North American team hasn’t taken the crown since 2015 but EUnited has brought the title back to the States. This was an intense set with a bit of back and forth between the two teams but EUnited edged out their competition with much thanks to the stellar performances from Venenu and PolarBearMike. Ultimately, Venenu was named the MVP.

Paladins Console Finals – Elevate (Xbox One)

Blight and Elevate weren’t just going toe-to-toe to fight for their own moment of glory. These teams were also competing to see if the Paladins community on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 would produce the Paladins Console Champion at HRX 2018. Xbox One was deemed superior with the help of Elevate. Many of the games were close but Elevate delivered the final payload to cement victory and be crowned the champion of the Paladins Console Wars.

Paladins PC Finals – Natus Vincere

The Paladins World Championship finals brought quite the matchup between Natus Vincere (NaVi) and Fnatic. The teams seemed to be pretty evenly matched but standout performances from individuals players truly made the real difference in this fight for the crown. In all four games of the set, it seemed like Fnatic just didn’t have what it took to deal with Creativs2’s oppressive presence. It seemed to be no surprise for the massive crowd gathered to watch the finals that Creativs2 was named the MVP.

Hand of the Gods – Echang

The Hand of the Gods Founder’s Tournament seemed surprisingly skewed. The very first game was over in what seemed to be the blink of an eye as Echange made quick work of Potpie. While Potpie managed to snag one victory of his competitor, Echang proved to be too great of a force to reckon with.

The HRX 2018 keynote was filled with epic videos of new characters coming to the worlds of SMTIE and Paladins. New lore0filled maps were shown off with intense sound tracks underscoring the dark stories often associated with the foundation of these characters and settings. The entire tone of these teaser trailers made Hi-Rez Studio’s announcement of their new game stand out even more in the most adorable way possible. The new game that Hi-Rez has on display at HRX 2018 is called Bot Smashers. Bot Smashers was described by developers as a base-building real time strategy game that focuses on quick gameplay so matches are relatively short compared to other games of the same genre.

Hi-Rez Studios CEO Erez Goren explained that many gamers find themselves feeling a bit antsy during matchmaking wait periods. He figured if they had to find something else to do to pass the time, why not offer them a game that will get the job done. It’s hard to believe that Bot Smashers was created solely for this purpose but its short, quick matches easily make it a great fit for anyone who really is just looking for entertainment between matches in another game.

Outside of focusing on the short match times and how downright adorable the robots were, there wasn’t a lot of additional information shared about the game. An early version of the game is available to play at HRX 2018 and players can sign up for beta testing now. While the game is currently only available for mobile, devs explained that if the game is received well they would certainly consider expanding it to multiple platforms in the future.

During a press conference at HRX 2018, Hi-Rez Studios CEO Erez Goren confirmed that the developer will have games coming to the Nintendo Switch soon. When asked if Hi-Rez Studios had any plans to port their games to the Switch or create brand new content for the Switch, Goren quickly responded with an excited “yes.” It was a swift response that was followed up by a public relations representative for the company with, “The PR answer would be maybe.” Goren, on the other hand, was far more confident in his answer and playfully responded with “maybe yes,” while still nodding his head excitedly.

It’s a strong suggestion that Hi-Rez will indeed have a presence on the Nintendo Switch soon but, of course, it hasn’t technically been officially announced by the studio just yet. Goren also seemed to admit, however, that while he let one secret out of the bag he didn’t give up the real surprise. “I didn’t say what game it was,” he injected a few moments later. It doesn’t give Hi-Rez fans much information or even suggest what games might be coming to the Switch, but it’s safe to say that the studio has several games that seem like great candidates for a port to the hybrid console.

A new mobile strategy game called Bot Smashers was also announced at HRX that would be a great fit for the Switch’s handheld mode but the real question is whether or not the studio’s most popular games like SMITE and Paladins will be heading to the Switch any time soon.

Paladins: Battlegrounds Will Bring Battle Royale Gameplay to the Hero-Based Shooter http://twinfinite.net/2018/01/paladins-battlegrounds-battle-royale/ http://twinfinite.net/2018/01/paladins-battlegrounds-battle-royale/#respond Thu, 04 Jan 2018 15:30:52 +0000 http://twinfinite.net/?p=322609 Just when you thought you could resist the battle royale craze

The post Paladins: Battlegrounds Will Bring Battle Royale Gameplay to the Hero-Based Shooter appeared first on Twinfinite.

Battle royale fans will have yet another new addition to the genre to try out but this time around there will be far more fantasy elements involved. Hi-Rez Studious announced that a new 100-player battle royale game mode will be coming to Paladins and combining key elements survival and hero-based fantasy gameplay. This is exactly what will allow Paladins: Battlegrounds to stand out when compared to Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which tend to follow more traditional gameplay designs for the genre.

“Riding on a mount through this massive fantasy-themed map, looking for gear and cooperating with your team, Paladins: Battlegrounds delivers some of the feel of open-world MMO PvP but all within a 20-minute match,” Paladins Executive Producer Todd Harris explained.

Players are still encouraged to think carefully about what character class they use to build their battle royale teams but the pressure is intensified on a sprawling map that will be reportedly 300 times larger than a traditional Paladins map and the loss of a teammate automatically puts players at a disadvantage for the rest of the game. So there won’t be any quick respawns if a flanker gets caught by another team and your team’s healer is unable to come to their aid.

Paladins: Battlegrounds will be free for all players upon release this year. If you’ll be attending Hi-Rez Expo, however, you’ll get a chance to try the game out early. A playable early alpha version of the new battle royale mode will be available at Hi-Rez Expo this week.

New God Cerberus, New Conquest Map and More Coming to SMITE in Season 5 http://twinfinite.net/2018/01/new-god-map-smite-season-5/ http://twinfinite.net/2018/01/new-god-map-smite-season-5/#respond Thu, 04 Jan 2018 14:53:27 +0000 http://twinfinite.net/?p=322633 Tons of goodies on the way

The post New God Cerberus, New Conquest Map and More Coming to SMITE in Season 5 appeared first on Twinfinite.

]]>
Hi-Rez Studios is preparing to kick off season 5 of SMITE with some pretty impressive changes to the popular free-to-play MOBA. The update will bring various improvements in the form of new art, a new map, highly requested changes to gameplay, and a new god. While more details will be shared during the HRX keynote, devs have already shared some information about what SMITE players can expect during the upcoming season.

The season 5 Conquest map will feature upgraded art that highlights the beautiful landscapes in the game, but the map will do more than just look pretty. In a press release, devs explained that the map would also be symmetrical to prevent any team from having an advantage simply because of where they were placed on the map at the start of the match. This was a pretty frustrating issue that earned intense glares and head shakes from the SMITE community but the new symmetrical map clearly highlights Hi-Rez’s ability to react to fan feedback in a meaningful way. The new Conquest map will be playable on SMITE’s public test server starting on January 17.

Jungle fog will also be making a return with improvements that will make it easier to determine what you don’t have vision of in the game and some monsters will be receiving an overhaul so their designs pay more homage to the lore behind them. While this is all pretty exciting news, the arrival of a new god is probably one of the most exiting content additions planned for season 5. Cerberus has been teased for quite some time but his arrival in the game is finally peeking over the horizon. Cerberus will be coming to SMITE in season 5, giving the game its 93rd addition to the roster. This three-headed Warden of the Underworld will be released in patch 4.25 on PC on January 9.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Zelda Breath of the Wild

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild brought an already iconic franchise back in a major way. There’s easily more than 40 hours of gameplay for anyone looking to only make their way through the main story but Breath of the Wild has even more to give than just that. With additional downloadable content and plenty of side quests to dive into, Breath of the Wild dishes out more than 90 hours total for you to enjoy. And that’s not counting all the time you can spend just exploring the most gorgeous world the entire franchise has seen yet. This is a fantastic open world game that allows you to explore every inch of its sprawling canvas, finding meaningful and entertaining ways to spend your time. Breath of Wild is filled with charm, humor, challenge, and a great narrative that keeps you constantly coming back for more.

Once the credits roll, there’s always more to do in the form of hunting down the 120 shrines and all 999 Korok seeds if you’re up for that.

Graffiti – Tracer

Seeing as how she’s Overwatch’s poster child, it’s a bit disappointing that Tracer doesn’t seem to have an impressive collection of skins in the game. For the most part her skins range in quality from okay to pretty good. but nothing seems to do her fun-loving personality any real justice. Fortunately, things changed when her Graffiti skin was introduced as a part of the Overwatch Anniversary event.

This skin reimagines Tracer as a graffiti artist and even replaces her pulse pistols with her new “tracemakers,” which are one of the best features of the entire skin. Her new spray paint-fueled pistols simply look amazing and work well with her gas mask and oversized hoodie to bring the entire graffiti artist theme together. Tracer always deserved a skin that looked urban and hip, so it’s about time she finally got it.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

wolfenstein II

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is not only one of the best first-person shooters of Q4 but it’s also one of the best shooter experiences for all of 2017. The New Colossus allows the beloved franchise to return in a blaze of glory with smooth gunplay, a captivating narrative, and a cast of characters that packs Wolfenstein with a ton of personality.

Leading B.J. Blazkowicz through his journey to take America back from Nazi rule is an intense and challenging experience. Throughout the campaign you will have the option to use stealth to take out foes before they call in for reinforcements or just take a bold approach of running through enemies with the most powerful weapons you have on hand. Gameplay remains fresh from beginning to end and the only huge complaint about the whole thing is that it doesn’t offer any real incentive to dive back into the game once you have completed the campaign.

It’s hard to think about a speed build that Auvbri can’t do. This talented Sims 4 builder has created everything from house boats to partially underground housing to homes that are completely underwater. He even found  a way to make a hospital look so modern and cool that your Sims wouldn’t mind spend weeks there if they had to. Many of his builds are pretty complicated to duplicate by just looking at them but Auvbri is great at giving tips for others who hope to recreate their own masterpieces. So you can gawk at his creations and learn how to make your own jaw dropping builds all at the same time.

GTA Online Gets Into the Holiday Spirit With Festive Surprise Update http://twinfinite.net/2017/12/gta-online-holiday-festive-surprise-update/ http://twinfinite.net/2017/12/gta-online-holiday-festive-surprise-update/#respond Tue, 19 Dec 2017 15:07:03 +0000 http://twinfinite.net/?p=320807 It's Christmas in Los Santos!

The post GTA Online Gets Into the Holiday Spirit With Festive Surprise Update appeared first on Twinfinite.

]]>
While some people spend their Decembers counting down the days until Christmas, GTA V players have been busy counting down the days until the Festive Surprise update finally came around again. If you have logged into GTA Online at all today, the large Christmas tree in your apartment or the massive Christmas tree at the center of Los Santos may have already tipped you off that the Festive Surprise update is now live. The update is bringing all the usual holiday fun to Los Santos like snow falling across the sprawling map in random intervals, holiday decorations in various areas, new holiday-themed clothing and vehicles, and, of course, the option to use snowballs as a weapon. Once you see the snow falling in Los Santos, be prepared for some intense snowball fight action. At this point, you will be able to scoop up snow and hurl snowballs at other players — because hurting people with snowballs is actually the true meaning of the holidays.

Keep in mind that Rockstar also turns into their own version of Santa around this time. Logging into GTA Online during the Festive Surprise update rewards you with various daily gifts. If past Festive Surprise updates are any indication of what you can expect, get ready to see free ammo, themed t-shirts, and various bonuses to enjoy while you wreak havoc across Los Santos for the holidays.

All of this temporary holiday themed content will be joined by some more permanent updates as well. The Sentinel Classic was added in last week’s Doomsday Heist update and is now available to purchase. A new adversary mode called Occupy is also live now in the game. This mode can be played by up to 16 different players spread across six different maps.

More details regarding the update’s content will likely be released later in the day and we’ll be sure to update you as Rockstar unveils more about everything we can expect during Festive Surprise 2017.
