Players can get a glimpse of what lies waiting in Selvadorada with The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure’s newest trailer.

The latest destination available to players, Selvadorada is ripe with long lost temples and treasures ripe for the taking. It doesn’t come without its fair share of dangers though: centuries old overgrowth, poison trap darts and jungle creatures of all sorts lie in waiting to impede intrepid adventurers or send them to the afterlife.

Preparation and the right personality are key to guiding your sims to safety, with the well-equipped adventurer surrounded by allies standing the best chance of reaching the heart of the packs’ temples. Doing so can also lead to some unforeseen friendships, including one with a reanimated skeleton.

The full trailer can be viewed below.

Originally released Sept. 2, 2014 on PC, The Sims 4 has seen several expansions and additional content created since its launch. Jungle Adventure marks the sixth game pack made for the title, with others ranging from the national park-themed Outdoor Retreat pack, to the Dine Out pack which offered players the chance to take their sims on culinary quests. The game has also received ports for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure pack is set for release on February 27 on PC. For more on the series, check out our review of the game on consoles as well as our attempt to solve a disappearance within the game you didn’t even know about.

H1Z1 has taken a major hit to its player base since the launch of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fornite’s battle royale mode, losing roughly 91 percent of its total player base.

According to recent statistics from githyp.com, the game has seen a continued decline in its active player counts since the arrival of the current heavy hitters in the battle royale genre. Reaching its peak in July of 2017 at 86,404 players per hour, the title has seen a steady decline since with decreases in players per hour as high as 26,635 in a single month. The reasons for the drop off vary, though comments within the game’s Steam community forums site poor quality and unaddressed technical issues.

First released to Steam’s Early Access Jan. 15, 2015, H1Z1 is an MMO survival sandbox game where players attempt to survive within the world through scavenging, stealth and cooperation. By March of 2015, it had sold over 1 million copies, and later on in its life it would go on to temporarily hold the third highest rank in Steam’s most played games.

The game’s developers, Daybreak Game Company,  have taken steps to alleviate the hit, selling the game for a discount as part of a humble bundle sale and offering a free weekend on Steam near the end of last year. However, the game’s player base has continued to decline, now resting at 7,583 players per hour.

After a lengthy hiatus, the creator of Duck Game has returned with news of a Switch port and a patch for the PlayStation 4 version.

In a post to his official blog, creator Landon Podbielski revealed a switch version of his indie action title was in development.

“I’ve been working with Tom from the Monogame team who is the most powerful code wizard I have ever met, and without him the switch version never would have been possible,” Podbielski writes.

He also announced that the PS4 version of the game would receive a patch in the near future. Released Aug. 22, 2017, the title has experienced several issues since its launch including connectivity errors and general bugs.

“The fact that the PS4 version’s online connectivity has been broken since release has been constantly in my mind and it’s really embarrassing that it’s been this long and many people still can’t connect to each other,” Podbielski writes. “I’ve been working to get access to the PS4 codebase from the porting company, and as soon as I’m in the plan is to fix the connection issues ASAP and release a patch.”

Originally released on Ouya on May 13, 2014, Duck Game is an action platformer where players make their way through stages by dodging and blasting waves of enemies. The game supports up to four players through online and local multiplayer, with the last player standing after the 10th wave taking the round.

No release window has been revealed for the title’s Switch port. Duck Game is currently available on PC, Ouya and PlayStation 4.

Goku’s latest transformation will soon be available in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, along with a new story scenario and other new characters.

In a post to Shonen Gamez, it was revealed through scans of V-Jump magazine that Xenoverse 2 players will soon be able to play as Goku in his Perfected Ultra Instinct form. The new form offers increased damage and the special finisher God’s Awakening Performance, wherein he rushes the enemy with a flurry of strikes and ki blasts before unleashing a one-handed spirit bomb. The DLC will also include Jiren, the primary competitor against Goku in Dragon Ball Super’s Tournament of Power arc, and a new original storyline focused on the Dragon Ball Online antagonist Fuu.

Released Oct. 25, 2016, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is the second entry in the action RPG series tied to the popular anime. Taking the role of a warrior summoned to right the fractured timeline of the Dragon Ball universe, players battle their way through story scenarios, side missions and multiplayer raids using a variety of moves and techniques from across the anime series.

Of the many series which deserve better sales numbers than they currently have, Bayonetta sits near the top.

One of the stranger entries in Nintendo’s catalogue, Bayonetta is a far cry from the family friendly offerings the company is known for. Violent, frenetic and, by director and Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya’s own words, based around a theme of “sexiness,” it isn’t the series most would place in the same stable as Mario and The Legend of Zelda, and would have been right at home on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

And yet, for those who have played the series’ two games, it couldn’t be clearer why Nintendo would want to hold onto the franchise exclusively. The games bleed style and creativity with a wisecracking lead character who tears through angelic enemies via pistols attached to each limb and supernatural attacks conjured using her hair. Its set pieces range from riding a motorcycle up a skyscraper to summoning otherworldly beings to punch celestial forces into the sun.

It’s a tour de force of the hack-and-slash genre, and one that deserves the praise critics and fans heap on it whenever they get the chance.

Unfortunately, its sales don’t reflect this in any way.

While the first has sold several million copies over its lifetime, Bayonetta 2 flagged behind considerably in its initial launch and has slowly tried to make up for it since its release. Considering its exclusivity to the Wii U, which had its fair share of sales issues, there wasn’t much that could have been done on the developer’s side, leaving the series to struggle where it could have shined.

It’s a heartbreaking truth for fans not only because the series deserves better, but because of the implications it could have for the series moving forward. As much as some might try to say otherwise, video games are a business, and sales determine what does and doesn’t continue to see releases. Even if the poor sales aren’t the fault of the series itself, it is a possibility the series could be stowed away in favor of other IPs which could perform better and ensure more profitability.

That’s why the announcement of Bayonetta’s Switch ports, as well as the news that a third installment is on the way, is so exciting. Not only is the series set to continue, but its first two entries can now be played by a much wider number of the fans as well as new players with a love for the hack-and-slash genre.

There’s also the benefits afforded by the Switch’s hardware. Thanks to the console’s portable play option, players can take the style and flair of both games on the go. Making a commute to school or work? Bring out Bayonetta and rip through a few waves of angelic enemies. Need to get some fresh air but don’t want to leave during a bonkers cut scene? Bring the action with you outside and enjoy some sunlight while you watch.

To be fair, the series still won’t be for everyone. It’s a fast paced hack-and-slasher through and through, and those who didn’t like the genre before probably won’t be swayed by a game that revels in these elements. Likewise, the original criticisms of the first two games hold over, with a convoluted story butting in on the fun at inopportune moments. And yet, with this re-release, it has the chance to show that it can be a profitable series worth future investments and support for new entries.

So, if you enjoy titles that are full to bursting with originality; if you’re all for games that take action to a new level, propelling you up buildings with a motorcycle before taking you into the atmosphere with a missile; if you’re looking for games with characters who are so over the top you can’t help but crack up; and if you want more titles that break new ground in terms of how fun they are to play, pick up Bayonetta on Switch. It’s a series more than worthy of being seen and enjoyed by a wider player base, and buying the latest re-release of the first two titles is the surest way to work toward achieving that goal.

With the first two games in the series now available on Nintendo Switch, we can’t help but wonder what Bayonetta 3 has in store.

A standout series in the hack-and-slash genre, the adventures of the eponymous witch blasting her way through angels and demons is a sight to behold. Wielding pistols attached to all of her limbs alongside melee weapons and supernatural hair-based spells and attacks, players can lose themselves in the stylish havoc of the gameplay for hours on end, and that’s to say nothing of the ridiculously over-the-top set pieces and story moments.

With that in mind, Bayonetta 3 stands at a crossroads. On one hand, it could stick to what’s made the series great and stay the course. On the other, it could build on what’s already established and break new ground, turning its flaws into strengths. We’re hoping for the latter, and these four elements in particular are at the top of the list of things we want to see in the next installment. *Warning: Minor Spoilers for Bayonetta 1 and 2 Ahead*

A New Storyline

As fun as the gameplay may be in both the first and second entries, the overarching storyline always felt like it was trying to catch up with the chaos. True, it offered a slew of zany twists and turns from time traveling allies to amnesiac gods in disguise, but it was often left behind near the end of both games as the action started to ramp up and bust through the atmosphere.

Luckily, Bayonetta 3 finds itself in a new position. Following the end of the second game, the events of the first two titles are wrapped up to an acceptable degree and the main cast of characters have resolved most of their overarching narratives. Going into the third game, the story could then focus on new challenges for the cast to fight their way through, building on who they’ve become while moving past the events surrounding the Umbra Witches and Lumen Sages. Likewise, the game’s have only scratched the surface of what the world holds, and we can only wonder who or what else is lurking in the shadows waiting to tear the world apart.

The Valentine’s Day update for Fortnite is now live, though it missed its intended holiday release.

The 2.5.0 update includes a Valentine’s Day-themed quest line and the Cupid’s Crossbow weapon, as well as new skins for the game’s characters. In addition to the holiday themed content, players can also take part in the new “reactive” quest types and can increase the difficulty of the game’s Save the World mode.

The update’s launch comes after several delays by developer Epic Games. Originally intended for release on February 8, the update was pushed back to Valentine’s Day and then delayed again on the holiday with an announcement made via Reddit.

“Our v.2.5.0 update will release tomorrow; we apologize for the poor communication around this release and the delay of the patch,” Sean Hamilton, community coordinator for Epic Games, wrote in the post.

The delays have also caused issues with the game’s seasonal gold reset. Intending to wipe players’ current gold with the release of the 2.5.0 update, Epic Games is now altering their plans due to the delay and exchanging fire cracker tickets for gold.

“Due to the delay in the build, there is nothing in the event store and Storm Llamas have disappeared,” Hamilton wrote. “We did a poor job communicating this and did not create a good experience for you.”

Moving forward, the company plans to communicate more clearly when and how updates will be released.

Fortnite is currently available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. For those wondering if the game will come to the Nintendo Switch, take a look at what Epic’s creative director had to say on the subject.

The popular indie farming game Stardew Valley is on track to reveal its new multiplayer mode, with the first wave of testing set to begin later this year.

In a post to the game’s developer blog, creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone provides a status report on the game’s 1.3 update. Alongside the addition of signs for better organization of stored materials, he reveals that progress on the new multiplayer mode is going smoothly and is on track for a beta this spring.

“Work on the new features is done, and we’ve sent all the new text off to be translated into the different languages,” Barone writes. “Once we’ve received the translated text and integrated it back into the game, we’ll begin a serious QA phase involving thorough testing of all new features in both multiplayer and single player contexts. When that is finished, the update should be ready for a public beta.”

Barone says that as the update’s release draws closer, he will release more information on the multiplayer mode as well as the specific features and improvements available through the 1.3 update.

Originally released Feb. 26, 2016, Stardew Valley was developed independently by Barone and published by Chucklefish. Inspired by the Harvest Moon series, the game tasks players with restoring a plot of land inherited from their grandparents. Choosing from one of five farm maps, players can forage, craft and cultivate their farms according to their own play style and preferences.

The title has received praise from fans and critics alike for its wealth of varied activities available, as well as its revitalization of the farming sim genre. The game is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

In spite of reaching a new sales milestone, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has seen a decline in their active player base on PC since last month.

Revealed in a tweet by Bloomberg tech reporter Yuji Nakamura, the game’s active player numbers have continued to drop since January despite the title reaching 30 million units sold as of this week. The downward trend marks the biggest decrease since the game’s launch. Nakamura attributes the drop to continued cheating within the game, which has been an ongoing issue and led to the banning of 1 million guilty players last month.

Originally released to Steam’s Early Access in March of 2017, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds became one of the breakout hits of last year. Drawing in millions of players over the course of its beta, the game saw widespread praise and popularity before its official launch on PC. Since its early access release on Xbox One, the game has seen over 4 million players, with 3 million flocking to the port in its first month alone.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently available on PC and Xbox One. For more on what’s next for the game, check out the recently announced Xbox One bundle set to release later this month.

Longtime Nintendo employee Takehiro Izushi has retired from the company, ending a decades spanning career.

Revealed in a post to Twitter Feb. 9, it was announced Izushi was fully retiring from the company after a 43 year career.

“This guy, Izushi, who just retired from Nintendo at age 65, worked on pretty much every game and watch,” Dylan Cuthbert, founder of Q-Games, wrote in a Twitter Post. “Best guy in the world!”

Hired in 1975, Izushi played a part in the development of a slew of Nintendo’s major titles, acting as a programmer for entries in the Game and Watch library as well as producer on Pokémon Yellow and Metroid: Zero Mission. His most recent credit came from his role as supervisor for Super Smash Bros. 3DS and Wii U. After the reshuffling of development teams under Satoru Iwata, he stepped away from development to take a position in the company’s general affairs division, where he stayed until retirement.

There are many more changes on the horizon for Nintendo, with the Switch continuing to prove one of the most successful consoles in the company’s recent history. For more on their future ventures, check out our breakdown of 8 realistic things to expect from the company in 2018.

Some games are just meant to be single player, and Horizon: Zero Dawn is a prime example.

One of the standout hits on PlayStation 4 last year, Horizon and its developer, Guerrilla Games, have received praise from critics and consumers alike for its polished open world design and engaging story. Of course, the version now available is very different from former builds of the game; in its character designs, sound work and, most notably, that it’s a strictly single player experience.

In a video interview with Noclip, Horizon: Zero Dawn’s director Mathijs de Jonge revealed the game at one point had functional multiplayer, allowing co-op play between two players. However, its inclusion would have come at a price.

“[W]e haven’t got that [in the final version] because the programmers basically said that if we wanted to have co-op, we would also have 50% of the features we had been asking for and not 100%,” de Jonge said. “With Horizon: Zero Dawn being the first game [in the franchise], we wanted 100%, so we dropped co-op in favor of that.”

All things considered, Guerrilla Games made the right call. As cool as co-op may be for some titles, Horizon’s best qualities could only have shined in a single player experience, both from a technical and narrative standpoint.

Horizon Zero Dawn

On the technical side, Horizon succeeds where many other open world titles fail. Polished and fluid, the game and its features are honed to a razor’s edge. The sweeping natural landscapes of plains and canyons, along with the mechanical creatures and humans who wander them, move and interact naturally with the player and the world around them, rendered beautifully and realistically all the while.

Likewise, the gameplay is smooth and engaging, allowing players to interact with the world in a variety of ways. If they’re in the mood to blast their way through a fight, they can go in guns blazing with explosive launchers and rapid-fire spear launchers; or, if they want to be more tactical, they can lay a variety of traps, luring prey into flammable grass or snaring them with anchored tethers. Outside of combat, they can explore most every part of the world, taking incredible pictures courtesy of the game’s photo mode.

Making all of these things possible was by no means an easy feat for Guerrilla, requiring years of hard work from the team which would have only doubled had they implemented co-op. Not only would they have had to account for another player interacting with the world at all times, but the strain on the engine and hardware could have led to everything from slowdown to crashes, and even to the loss of content Mathijs himself mentioned.

Photo Mode Horizon Zero Dawn

This is to say nothing of the story and how the single player gameplay enhances it. From the beginning, Aloy is shown to be isolated from others. Where the rest of the world bands together in clans and tribes, she is shunned as an outcast from birth and has few she can call friends or family. Even when she becomes an adult and proves herself better than other hunters in her tribe, she is still considered an outsider and kept on the fringes of the world’s societies.

It sets her up to be alone throughout the game and, while it initially seems intended to provide conflict, serves to establish her as a character capable of handling problems and challenges single-handedly. True, there are segments where other characters assist her in different quests and hunts, but for the majority of the game players take on hulking, mechanized monsters on their own, scale ancient structures solo, and delve into the lost history of the world for their own sake. With each action the player takes, they help prove Aloy doesn’t need anyone’s help to survive and thrive, and is more than capable of doing so with her own initiative. Having another character along for the ride would only diminish that, hampering this growth with their inclusion.

There are certainly examples of open world titles which manage to implement co-op well, but Horizon wasn’t meant to be one of them. It thrives as a single player experience and stands as one of this console generation’s best titles as a result.

The free-to-play multiplayer battle arena title Smite has a new horde mode incoming, leaning heavily into an anime theme and aesthetic.

Revealed in a post to the game’s official website, the new mode centers around Da Ji for the game’s newest adventure titled “Da Ji and the Legend of the Foxes.” In it, players take on waves of enemies to help defend the Sacred Foxes, gaining new powers and abilities along the way. The new mode also offers a complete visual overhaul of the game, rendering the world and its characters in a new cel-shaded art style while providing Da Ji with the new “Senpai” skin, modeled after a Japanese school girl. The new skin will also be available for use across other modes.

Originally released Mar. 25, 2014, Smite gives players a variety of characters to choose from, each based on popular deities and gods from myths and legends around the world. The game’s developer, Hi-Rez studios, has released other adventure packs based around certain characters in the past, placing them in new game modes ranging from capture-the-flag to RPGs.

The new mode is set to launch alongside the game’s 5.2 update for 900 in-game gems, though the release date for both has not yet been announced. A trailer for the new mode can be viewed down below.

Smite is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For more on the game, check out our look at what the game’s fifth season has to offer.

Take-Two Interactive, publisher of such series as Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, reports they saw a profit increase in the last fiscal quarter.

Revealed through their earnings release for the last quarter of the fiscal period ending Dec. 31, 2017, the company saw a net revenue of $480.8 million, up from the $476.5 million reported during the same period the year before. Some of its biggest contributors to the increase were titles like Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto Online,  NBA 2K18, WWE 2K18 and L.A. Noire.

Likewise, the company’s digital revenue reached $258.4 million, up 8 percent from the previous year thanks to their sports titles and Grand Theft Auto Online. DLC, in game currency and microtransaction sales, which have been one of the company’s main focuses, improved as well, seeing an increase of 64 percent and accounting for 32 percent of net profits.

The news has the company optimistic about the coming fiscal year, with Red Dead Redemption 2 set to release during the period with an Oct. 26, 2018 launch date for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One.

“We have a robust development pipeline and are better positioned than ever for long-term growth and margin expansion,” Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two, says. “We continue to expect to deliver both record net bookings and record net cash provided by operating activities in fiscal 2019, in excess of $2.5 billion and $700 million, respectively, led by the launches of Red Dead Redemption 2 and a highly anticipated new title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises.”

GameStop has revealed their next CEO as Michael K. Mauler, the company’s current executive vice president and president of international business.

A 16 year veteran of the company, Mauler is set to adopt the new role immediately, joining the company’s board of directors and taking over the duties currently handled by interim CEO Dan DeMatteo. DeMatteo, meanwhile, will return to his regular position as the company’s executive chairman.

“Mike has been part of the GameStop senior leadership team for many years, where he has played an integral role in creating and driving the blueprint of our diversification strategy, successfully managing our international operations, and growing our core business segments.” DeMatteo says. “We are fortunate to have such an accomplished leader, who has a thorough understanding of our operations, business strategy and our stakeholders, and is committed to strengthening our results and driving our company forward.”

Mauler’s appointment as CEO follows the departure of the company’s former CEO, J. Paul Raines, last November for health reasons. Raines took over the position in 2010 and oversaw much of the company’s diversification of retail past the company’s physical game sales. His tenure with the company, along with his reserved seat on the board of directors, is set to officially end in mid-March.

In a new blog post, 343 Industries addresses fan concerns over continued support for the Master Chief Collection, as well as how it factors into Halo 6’s development.

Posted to the official halo website Halo Waypoint, the post goes in depth on the company’s future support for the Master Chief Collection. Upon its release on Xbox One in 2014, the set of remastered Halo titles met heavy criticism for enduring bugs, glitches and technical issues. The team has continued to address these issues since, and plans to continue to work on the games throughout 2018.

“We can’t undo the past, nor will we dwell on what could’ve/should’ve been,” Brian Jarrard, community manager at 343 Industries, says. “Instead, we are keenly focused on what’s in front of us – an exciting, brand new opportunity to deliver the ultimate experience for Halo fans past, present and future.”

The post also reassured fans that their continued work and support for the Master Chief Collection would not impact the development of Halo 6, the series’ next installment. Whereas a primary team continues to work on main line Halo titles, a smaller team of experienced individuals will remain dedicated to work on the Collection.

“This team is completely separate from the broader 343 team working on the next Halo FPS title. There’s zero overlap or shared resources to ensure that the larger game team can remain laser focused on the future,” Jarrard writes. “We are committing the necessary resources to do both projects right.”

Moving forward, the team will reach out to the community for help with patch testing and other online play components. No new information regarding Halo 6’s release was given, though a past blog post from the developer left many speculating the game will release sometime after 2018.
