The news comes via a press release from the company, which revealed the game has sold 5.1 million units as of Mar. 31. As a result, the title is now the fourth best selling title in the series, with Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6 still sitting above it at 8.16, 11.84 and 9.83 million units sold respectively.

This comes in addition to the game receiving several awards for its VR game design. The title won Best VR/AR Game at the Game Awards as well as VR Game of the Year at the SXSW Gaming Awards, and more recently received the award for Best VR Audio at the Game Audio Network Guild Awards.

The game’s strong sales and performance are only the latest feather in Capcom’s hat. Their recently released title Monster Hunter World has also received widespread praise and strong sales, having sold over 7.5 million units as of last month. Likewise, the recent success of its properties has been a boon for the company’s finances, with Capcom’s stocks at their highest values since 2001.

Resident Evil 7 is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. For more on the game, check out our review.
