Detective Pikachu is unlike any other Pokemon game before it, not just because of its gruff, coffee-drinking Pikachu, but also because of its puzzle-themed gameplay. It’s a game that’s definitely a bit hard to describe why it works so well, without actually play it. Luckily, you can do just that now as Nintendo has released a free demo version of the game available on the 3DS eShop. We found Detective Pikachu to be a charming, although easy, experience. You can see our full review here.
The demo lets you play through a portion of the game’s first chapter, and your save data will carry over to the full title. Nintendo is also still offering a free 3DS theme for anyone that buys the game digitally on the eShop, or through select retailers.
Detective Pikachu has you playing as Tim Goodman, a young man that travels to Ryme City to search for his missing father, who just happens to be a detective. There he meets his father’s partner, a surprisingly gruff Pikachu wearing a detective hat. Strangely, Tim is the only person that can actually understand what Pikachu is saying, and to everyone else he’s just a normal Pokemon. The pair set out to solve a string of mysteries and find out why Tim’s father vanished.
Detective Pikachu is currently available on Nintendo 3DS.
