Fortnite Scholarship: What You Need to Know

Everything You Need to Know About the Fortnite Scholarship Program

Recommended Videos

With the rising popularity of esports, making a living playing video games an ever more viable career choice, we shouldn’t be too surprised that universities are beginning to add courses to their curriculum that cover the industry. Schools across America have began to offer special placements to outstanding prospective students who excel in videos games. Prior to 2018, that typically meant popular titles such as League of Legends and Overwatch, but the dramatic rise in popularity of Epic Games’ Fortnite has put it on the radar of one University in Ohio.

That’s right, despite the fact that Fortnite is not technically yet a full-fledged esport or even a fully released product, there’s already a Fortnite scholarship program that caters for talented players. Ashland University is offering a $4,000 reduction in fees to those who qualify and are accepted. For reference, it’s admission fee is around $35,000 for a fully paying student.

Esports head coach at Ashland University, Josh Buchanan, said the following about the new program:

“Fortnite appeals to both the core and casual gaming audience… We’re excited to provide this platform for gamers who want to showcase their skills in a more competitive space. Fortnite facilitates an environment that allows players to get creative, innovate and show off their mastery of their skills.”

While the fee reduction likely isn’t enough to steer you away from another school of your choice, if you are looking to get on board with an esports program and Fortnite is your game of choice, this might well be attractive. More than just the reduced entry fee, joining a Fortnite scholarship that’s catered for players is exactly the facilities you’ll want if you’re hoping to break into the Fortnite esports scene when it inevitably takes off in the future.

Speaking of facilities, Ashland is planning on building a new gaming center for the esports program, complete with 25 gaming stations. You can find out more about the Eagles Esports program at Ashland here.

That’s all you need to know about the Fortnite Scholarship program that was recently announced. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more on the game.
