Splatoon 2 Is Getting a Ton of New Content in Free Updates Starting This Friday

Nintendo has today announced that its ink-based shooter, Splatoon 2, will be getting a ton of new content ranging from stages to haircuts via free updates starting this Friday.

The news comes from a post over on the official Nintendo UK site. According to the post (and accompanying video that we’ve included below), as of this Friday, Splatoon 2 will receive a range of new content both cosmetic and gameplay-related. Most notably, four new stages will be “rolling out in the coming weeks,” with supermarket-themed MakoMart kicking things off on Saturday. A new Salmon Run stage called Salmonid Smokeyard, however, will be available as soon as you’ve downloaded Friday’s update.

On top of that, for those who love their Inkling to look their very best, 140 new cosmetic items, and a range of new hairstyles will be added into the game starting this Friday.

The update will also allow players to change gear between battles in Regular, Ranked, and Splatfast Battles, and the level cap is also getting bumped up to 99. Splatoon 2 will also take a leaf out of Call of Duty’s book, allowing players to ‘prestige’ of sorts by talking to Judd when they reach level 99. It currently remains unclear whether this is something you can do multiple times.

Following this Friday’s update, Nintendo will release another one in mid-December which includes a new Ranked Battle mode. Nothing else is known about the second update thus far.

Splatoon 2 is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
