How to Use amiibo in Skyrim on Nintendo Switch

Recommended Videos

The Switch port of Skyrim comes with a couple of neat little additions to the base game. Aside from being able to use the Joy-Cons for motion controls, Zelda fans will also be able to use selected amiibo to unlock cool rewards within the game itself.

To use these NFC-enabled figures, open up the character menu by pressing B (this can be remapped) and head over to the Magic section. Under the list of all magic, the amiibo option should be at the top of the list. Equip this power in Skyrim by selecting it, and you’ll be able to activate it with a press of the R button, which is typically reserved for your Shouts. Once you press it, use your amiibo and tap it on the analog stick of the right Joy-Con, and a treasure chest will appear in the game, along with a Legend of Zelda jingle. You can then open the chest to get some cool rewards like extra arrows, equipment, and you even have a chance of obtaining cool Zelda-themed armor.

However, each figure can only be used once a day. The following Zelda amiibo are compatible with the game:

  • Breath of the Wild
  • 30th Anniversary
  • Super Smash Bros.
  • Any other Zelda-themed figures you may have.
