How to Pass Time in Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Recommended Videos

Similar to the previous game, Middle-earth: Shadow of War also allows you to pass or advance time in the game world. However, doing this will have some repercussions on Talion and the orc captains. There are two ways to pass time in Shadow of War: either by dying to an enemy and respawning at the last rest point, or selecting the Advance Time option from a fast travel point marked on your map. The fast travel point has to be purified before you can do this.

This will progress time in Shadow of War’s world, and also allow a transition in the day and night cycle. In addition to that, when you pass time it will also allow the orc captains to complete whatever mission or patrol they were on, and they could potentially get promoted as well, making them slightly more formidable and powerful. At the same time, new captains and targets can also get added to the Nemesis system itself as more enemies grow stronger along with you. Remember to check the Army menu from the pause screen whenever you choose to pass time so you can keep track of what’s going on with your new foes, and hunt them down before things get out of control.
