Can You Play PS3 Games on PS4?

Every time our favorite console manufacturers release their latest tech, the question of backwards compatibility is always brought up. Considering the number of excellent exclusives and memorable third-party experiences on the Sony’s last console, it should come as no surprise that fans are wondering if they can play PS3 games on PS4.

Well, there’s some good news and bad news on that front. The good news is that yes you can play PS3 games on your PS4, but the bad news is that you can’t just put a disc in your console and play as you would with any PS4 game. Instead, you’ll need to sign up to Sony’s PlayStation Now service, instead.

PlayStation Now is a streaming service that allows you to stream from a library of 400 PS3 and PS4 games. Though its far from a complete library of every PS3 game, you’ll find many of the classics are available to jump into.

PlayStation Now is a paid service, however. It’ll set you back $19.99 a month, or $44.99 for three months. It’s not an ideal way to play PS3 games on PS4, but if you no longer have your PS3, it’s still a viable option. It’s worth noting that you’ll want to make sure you have a speedy and stable internet connection, as a patchy connection can really hinder the experience over PlayStation Now.
