Jon Davies, the narrative designer for Augmented Empire comments: “The whole team’s extremely proud of what we achieved with Augmented Empire and thrilled with the passion and talent of the actors involved”.
Augmented Empire is a cyberpunk tactical role-playing game for Samsung Gear VR. Played from an isometric perspective, players navigate a team of six characters in X-COM-like strategic encounters. Having played the game at EGX Rezzed last year, I walked away impressed with its atmospheric neo-noir setting and well-written narrative. Most notably, its strategy gameplay felt really well suited to VR, giving a unique perspective in combat that really added to the sense that I was tactically commanding a squad from afar.
Coatsink describes Augmented Empire:
In 2058, New Savannah is a city divided. On the verge of her ascension, the world of top-tier citizen Willa Thorne comes crashing down. Now the poster-child of civil obedience must lead a team of misfits and criminals to survive. From the armchair of your secluded hideout, control your team in ‘augmented reality’ to overthrow the corrupt elite.
Augmented Empire features the voice talents of Kate Mulgrew, Nick Frost, and Doug Cockle and is out now on Samsung Gear VR.
