It’s Set in a Post-Apocalyptic World
Fist of the North Star, also known as Hokuto No Ken in Japan, is a long-running anime and manga series that’s inspired countless other works. The original manga series was serialized from 1983-1985. Fist of the North Star is set in a post-apocalyptic world, and the closest style of comparison you could draw would be to Mad Max. It’s a world filled with weird and insane characters, coupled with anime action, and did the post-apocalyptic thing before a lot of other media did.
The series takes place sometime in the 1990s, after the world has been ravaged by an global nuclear war. The Earth’s surface became devoid of vegetation and the seas dried up, putting the 30 percent of humanity that survived into a constant battle for supplies and safety. This sets the backdrop for many absurd battles and dramatic storylines, as the main character travels throughout the destroyed Earth.
