Sledgehammer Games Reveals Additional Details About Call of Duty: WWII’s Zombies Mode

The walking (and running) dead.

Call of Duty: WWII’s upcoming Zombies co-op mode looks to be a much more raw and terrifying experience than before, and a new interview with Sony’s PlayStation Blog and Sledgehammer Games sheds some more light on what we can expect out of the new shambling hordes of the undead.

The decidedly more horror-centric approach to the zombies mode will take place in a small Bavarian village during the late stages of World War II. As such, it’s rife with sewers, tombs, and other dark and terrifing places.

We already knew there would be several different types of zombies included in the game mode, but now we know a little more about what each kind of zombie will do. According to Sledgehammer, each zombie has a specific role to fill, like those that run toward you or the ones that are set aflame and come reaching for you to set you on fire as well.

Players can use items in their surrounding environments to their advantage, such as pulling saw blades up and using them to kill zombies, or various other contextual advantages that can help keep the zombie population at bay.

Hardcore players will be challenged on several levels, with a new mode that won’t hold their hands or show them the way, just like anyone keen on upgrading their weapons and playing with detailed strategies can do so. Unfortunately, Sledgehammer Games wasn’t so forthcoming with all the details Zombies fans can look forward to, but from the sound of things there’s a lot of awesome mechanics to look forward to.

You can check out the rest of the interview here via the official PlayStation Blog.
