Is Destiny 2 Cross Platform?

With Destiny 2 finally out on Xbox One and PS4 today, Guardians are busy venturing around the galaxy and saving it from Ghaul and his merciless Red Legion. As most of you will likely already know, Destiny 2 is an always-online game that requires you to be connected to Bungie’s servers, so that’s got a lot of people wondering if the game is cross platform.

Unfortunately, while the game is available on both Xbox One and PS4, with a PC release next month, it is not possible to play with players on another platform. As such, if you want to play with your friends or family members, you’ll all need to get it on the same platform.

It’s worth noting, however, that with a PC version releasing next month, there’s always a slight possibility that Bungie could magic something up to bring cross platform play to the Xbox One and PC versions. This is purely speculative, however, and it’d require Blizzard to also be in agreement, but in an age of post-release updates, never say never.

As for PS4 owners, cross platform play for Destiny 2 is almost completely out of the question. Sony has recently dismissed the idea of cross platform play for a number of games, so the chance of this changing now seems highly unlikely.
