Atlus’ Catherine was an excellent departure from the norm, a puzzle game with an engaging storyline that fans of the Shin Megami Tensei series and Persona games fell in love with. We haven’t heard a peep out of Atlus as far as a new Catherine game goes, but recently during the Atlus “Golden Employment Special” broadcast, we were given what could possibly be a glimmer of hope.
The broadcast was meant to highlight interviews with the Studio Zero staff, a studio formed in 2016 that’s been looking for new recruits. There wasn’t any news about the studio’s first game, but there was something that seemed to be a hint at what could end up being a sequel to the game Catherine to begin with.
If you’ve never played Catherine, the main storyline plays out during a special TV show called Golden Playhouse, hosted by a character named Midnight Venus. Midnight Venus’s voice actor Junko Minagawa was on hand during the Studio Zero presentation, “hosting” the show in a sense. After the presentation concluded, Midnight Venus offered some commentary of her own.
“By the way, I’m looking forward to the fantasy RPG of course…
But will there even be anything for me to do?
Maybe a lot of you are actually wondering?
This time, I will be the new heroine! Just kidding…
Huh, the offer for my next job is on the table?”
After that, the presentation comes to an end, signaling that news could be coming in the future for Midnight Venus’s “employment” that could potentially be a sequel to Catherine.
Hopefully there’s some awesome news on the horizon that will eventually culminate in more Catherine, but right now we’ll just have to keep our eyes and ears open for more. You can view the entire broadcast here.
