Psyonix has begun to reveal the changes that will come to Rocket League as part of the game’s Autumn Update. The first addition will Transparent Goalposts.
The highly requested feature will “drastically change how you see the ball in certain positions on the pitch.” It will allow you to take up positions that are better tactically while keeping an eye on the location of the ball. “When defending in-goal, for example, the posts and walls around you will become transparent for better vision. The same goes for players who hug Arena walls on offense or defense, because the quarterpipe will be see-through as well!”
However, the goalposts will not be transparent to every player on the pitch. While players in the goal will be able to see through them, any competitor that is in a corner by a boost pad or somewhere more central will still see them as solid walls.
The developer outlined why they decided to make the change by saying, “First, we wanted to provide consistent visibility in and around the goal areas for players across all Arenas. Second, we wanted Transparent Goalposts to have a positive effect on each Arena’s artwork. In other words, Transparent Goalposts will narrow the visual space needed between the pitch and content outside the walls (crowds, statues, etc), allowing for better looks. Third and finally, we wanted to make it an option you can toggle on or off – although the community’s been asking for this feature for quite some time, we respect the fact that some may prefer things the way they’re accustomed to. It’s your choice! Feel free to make it in the Options screen.”
The change will take effect when the Rocket League Autumn Update releases.
