Supply and demand.
The Nintendo Switch was released earlier this year and has been a massive hit with gamers the world over. Not only does it allow you to play both on your television and on the go, but it has also seen many great games released for it within just a few months. It launched with the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and has since seen several awesome titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2.
However, the popularity of the Nintendo Switch has also mean’t that it has been very hard to get hold of. Stores sell out almost instantly as soon as more units come in and some have felt frustration towards Nintendo for not anticipating such demand. With the Holiday season on the horizon, no doubt many gamers will be hoping to get a Switch as a gift and there’s serious pressure for Nintendo to get Switch units back in stock.
In a recent statement to The Wall Street Journal, Nintendo said it is aiming to ‘ramp up production’. “We’re doing everything we can to make sure everyone who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch system can do so. We will ramp up production for the holiday period, which has been factored into our forecast.”
It’s certainly good that the Switch has been so well received that it’s selling so fast, but Nintendo needs to make sure there’s enough units to meet that demand. If there is a shortage of Switch console during the Holiday season, Nintendo will run the risk of losing profits and rousing the ire of eager gamers. Here’s hoping there are enough to go around.
