Is There Permadeath in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

Recommended Videos

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has finally released on PC and PS4, and at the very start of the game, you’ll be told that if you die too many times, you’ll lose all of your progress. Many players were excited that this permadeath-like mechanic was in-play in Hellblade, adding to the tension of your adventure into Viking Hell. However, there seems to be a bit of uncertainty regarding whether the game actually does feature permadeath or not.

According to PCGamesN, Hellblade’s permadeath feature is kind of a bluff. During their playthrough, they died 50 times and the Black Rot never fully took over their body and killed them. While this seems to suggest that the permadeath mechanic simply doesn’t exist, others believe that at certain points throughout the game, the number of deaths required to suffer from the mechanic is increased, thus significantly reducing your chances of having to start over from the beginning.

We’ve reached out to Ninja Theory for a definitive answer regarding the mechanic, so we’ll be sure to update this post and let you know as soon as we hear back.
