Well this is unexpected.
File this under today’s most unexpected announcement, Final Fantasy XV is getting an official collaboration event with Assassin’s Creed, titled the Assassin’s Festival. A trailer released today shows a pretty massive festival overtaking the streets of Lestallum, entirely themed to the Assassin’s Creed games. This means everyone’s wearing Assassin costumes, and that’s right that means Assassin outfits for the entire party.
Besides the look of Lestallum changing it seems like there’s actually going to be some kind of story implemented, as we see multiple cutscenes throughout the trailer. On top of that the free DLC has new gameplay themed to Assassin’s Creed, showing Noctis climbing, running down narrow areas, and using the iconic hidden blade. Take a look at the full trailer at the bottom, and you can see an exclusive piece of artwork created for the collaboration below.
Apparently, according to a Ubiblog post, the collaboration started almost three years ago during Tokyo Game Show, when members of Ubisoft and Square Enix informally met to express admiration for each other’s work. There are a few Easter Eggs leading up to this, like the Assassin’s Creed symbol appearing in FFXV’s CG trailer, and Umbra from Final Fantasy XV appearing in Assassin’s Creed Origin’s latest trailer.
The Assassin’s Festival will be available as a free download for Final Fantasy XV starting on Aug. 31, on PS4 and Xbox One. Fans will be able to access the event from that date all the way up until Jan. 31, 2018.
