Well, it’s actually happening. Not only is a new Bubsy game coming, Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back, but it’s actually getting a physical collector’s edition for PlayStation 4. The limited-run “Purrfect Edition” will be available at Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and a few other online retailers for $39.99.
In the Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back Purrfect Edition you get a physical disc in a standard PS4 case, the original soundtrack on CD, Bubsy’s business card (he’s probably got a ton of these left over from the nineties), and a “mystery postcard.”
The Woolies Strike Back is the latest meme to hit the Bubsy series. It’s been 21 years since the radical cat, or whatever they called it, has been allowed to hit a console. His last game, Bubsy 3D is a shoe-in for the worst 3D platformer from the age of horrible 3D platformers, though, in the developer’s defense, it was released during the birth of the genre.
We can’t really blame Bubsy for his trespasses though. He was created during a time when every company was trying to break out with a kid-friendly mascot, and he’s just a product of his day. He’s cute and relatively inoffensive, and maybe when the Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back Collector’s Edition comes out alongside the standard edition on October 31, the thousands of kids who rented one of those mediocre games with horrible floaty controls can forgive him now that they’re adults.
