After various leaks throughout the day, THQ Nordic and Experiment 101 – a team consisting of former Just Cause and Mad Max developers – have officially announced BioMutant, a post-apocalyptic action RPG set for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC next year. A CGI trailer accompanying today’s announcement can be found below.

Featuring “varied and deep character progression,” the game promises that players will be allowed to explore the title’s three systematically generated worlds by “foot, mech, air-balloon, jet ski, and UFO.” BioMutant’s furry raccoon/fox protagonist is also fully customizable in an MMO-style context. Item crafting, a player-controlled narrative and a “mutation system” will be included as well, with combat akin to something like a fusion of martial arts and gunfights.

A collector’s edition for BioMutant was also announced and is priced at $119.99 USD. The set will include a copy of the game, a premium box, a figurine, A1 artwork on fabric and the title’s official soundtrack.

BioMutant Collector's Edition

If you’re at Gamescom this year, you’re in luck. BioMutant will be at THQ Nordic’s booth at the convention in Cologne, Germany this week. If you can’t make it, rest assured knowing that the game will make an appearance at PAX West in Seattle next month, too. It’s unclear at the moment exactly how much of the title will be shown at either event.

This isn’t the first of THQ Nordic’s recent game announcements, as just last week the publisher announced that Black Mirror will be getting the reboot treatment and is set to release this November 28 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
