Is Splatoon 2 Coming to the Wii U?

Splatoon 2’s July 21 release is just around the corner, meaning plenty of ink, squids, and multiplayer mayhem is about to hit your Switch in one vibrantly colored package. While fans already know that the game is coming to Nintendo’s hybrid Switch system, others may be wondering if the game is coming to the Wii U. After all, it is the sequel to a brand-new IP that launched on Nintendo’s last system.

Unfortunately, it seems that Nintendo is choosing to leave the Wii U in the past as it focuses on the Switch. With just a couple of weeks until the game is on store shelves, Nintendo has made no official announcement regarding a Wii U version of Splatoon 2. Though it’s possible that the big N could choose to release the paint-filled title on the Wii U at a later date, it seems unlikely considering the disappointing sales of the system.

As such, we’d advise against getting your hopes up for Splatoon 2 on Nintendo’s first HD system. If you’re desperate to get into the colorful FPS action once more, you’ll have to pick yourself up a Nintendo Switch.

More About Splatoon 2

Splatoon 2 is the follow-up to Splatoon, the inky shooter game released on the Wii U two years ago. Take control of a kid, splat your enemies with ink, and transform into a squid whenever you feel like it.
