Fortnite: How to Start & Complete Treacherous Treasure Quest

How to Start and Complete Treacherous Treasure Mission in Fortnite

Recommended Videos

The vast majority of the missions in Fortnite are pretty straight forward. There isn’t necessarily a whole lot of critical thinking involved when it comes to trying to figure out what you need to do next. This is mainly because Fortnite will pretty much list the steps for your mission in the top right corner of your screen. Even then, however, sometimes you can find yourself getting lost and a bit confused in the expansive zones you’ll find yourself exploring. If you have come across the Treacherous Treasure mission and seem to be having a bit of trouble, you’re not alone. So here’s exactly what you’ll need to look out for to complete the Treacherous Treasure mission.

First thing’s first, you’ll have to activate the mission. This will happen once you find a survivor with a creepy claim—a treasure chest tried to kill him. The tricky part, however, is finding this survivor. There are multiple survivors randomly tossed around zones in Fortnite so how do you find this one in particular? You’ll have two options. One option is to just put in the footwork and explore the map until you see a blue survivor icon that also has an exclamation point right next to it. Once you get close to the icon, you’ll hear the survivor calling out for help after being attacked by a treasure chest. This is your guy. Talk to him and Treacherous Treasure will be activated.

If you don’t want to spend time running around trying to find this survivor for Treacherous Treasure, focus on finding a radar tower instead. If you build a radar tower in Fortnite it will expand your view of the map and could make it a lot easier to find the survivor you’re looking for. After you speak to the survivor it will be time to find his assailant. If you’re familiar with the monsters that appear in Fortnite you probably already know that you’ll be looking for a Mimic. Mimics are monsters that are, of course, disguised as treacherous treasure chests and will emerge as pretty powerful enemies once you attempt to open them.

Unfortunately, the Mimic you need to find for the Treacherous Treasure quest will not be marked on your map. Once again, Fortnite will leave you running around the zone in hopes you’ll stumble upon what you’re looking for. There are a few spots that have been popular locations for finding Mimics. Many players are discovering Mimics in the basements of homes or up on high ground. Whether it’s on top of tall cliffs or the top of a building, these spots have been pretty popular hiding spots. If you go to open a blue treasure chest and see it start to wiggle and move you’ll know that you have a Mimic on your hands. Make sure you prepare with tons of ammo as it takes quite a bit of damage to take down these treasure chest imposters.

One of the best ways to handle mimics if you’re going it alone is to block the path to you with a wall. The Mimic will decide to spend time hacking away at your defenses instead of chasing after you. They are strong, however, so don’t expect them to take too long before they knock down your wall and continue to chase you. Once you have killed the Mimic the Treacherous Treasure mission will be completed and you’re more than welcome to go on with your Fortnite adventures.

That’s all you need to know to start and complete the Treacherous Treasure quest. For more on Fortnite, be sure to check out our wiki.
