Everyone’s welcome to go back to Ivalice, except for Ondore. Don’t believe his lies.
Final Fantasy XII is being reborn in the form of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, an updated HD port of the PlayStation 2 original that’s landing on PlayStation 4 on July 1. A divisive Final Fantasy any way you slice it, the tale of political intrigue, warring empires, and memorable characters is just waiting for players new and old to either return to the land of Ivalice or embark on a journey there for the first time.
The latest Zodiac Age story trailer offers an overview for players to do just that, giving tidbits on what kind of events will transpire in-game as well as shining a light on characters like Princess Ashe and Vaan as well as their fateful meeting.
If you’ve never played Final Fantasy XII, there’s a lot to be excited about for this port, especially since it’s based on the Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System version that originally released in Japan back in 2007. Aside from various new game modes, the most important addition is the new job system — exactly what the Japanese version’s title refers to. There were a whole host of changes, actually.
This massive change offers a way for players to diversify their party members even further than before. You’ll be able to give them specific jobs just like in the olden days of Final Fantasy, and in doing so will be immediately, immensely regret having ever enjoyed the license board system from the original version of the game.
Check out the trailer below and get hyped for a rekindling of Final Fantasy XII love, or if you’re new to the game, love at first sight. Just don’t be surprised if it takes you a while to get past Vaan. He can be a little much at times.
