At Microsoft’s E3 press conference, it was announced that original Xbox games would soon be available to play on your Xbox One along with the Xbox 360 backwards compatible titles. This has been great news for gamers as there are plenty of great original Xbox games we’d love to go back and play.
As GameSpot reports, Xbox head Phil Spencer stated that a number of titles are already in the process of coming to the Xbox One, though he wouldn’t state which ones other than Crimson Skies and Fuzion Frenzy. Those of you who are hoping we’ll see a large amount of original games made backwards compatible should know that Spencer stated there won’t be as many backwards compatible original games as there are 360 games.
Spencer stated that the reason there will be fewer is down to two main reasons. Firstly, there are rights issues with bringing original games back and, secondly, emulating original games is apparently more difficult than 360 games.
It looks like we should mainly expect to see first party original Xbox games come to the Xbox One, given that many publisher and developers of third party games are out of business or were acquired by other companies. that still leaves some pretty great games for us to hopefully get in the future such as Halo: Combat Evolved, Project Gotham Racing, Fable, and Halo 2. We look forward to seeing what games are announced.
