Threatening leaks is a new low.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is no stranger to leaks and rumors, but ahead of E3 2017 things have taken an interesting turn for CD Projekt RED, the studio behind the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3. In an announcement tweeted out today, the studio revealed that an unidentified individual, or a group, has managed to get their hands on some documents concerning their next highly-anticipated title, Cyberpunk 2077. The individual(s) are threatening to release all of the files to the public unless a ransom is paid.

As you can see in the full statement posted to the studio’s official Twitter account, the team has no intentions of responding to the ridiculous demand. However, they do take the time to inform fans and the general public that the information that was stolen are “largely unrepresentative” of Cyberpunk 2077. That’s to be expected as the game is still quite early in development and it’s no secret that game designs evolve over time. The studio goes on to implore anyone who is looking forward to playing the game to avoid any and all information that does not come directly from CD Projekt RED.
With E3 just around the corner, threatened leaks are not surprising at all, but this certainly takes things to a new level. Hopefully the studio finds out exactly who is behind this crime as we look forward to future, real details revolving around the intriguing RPG.
