Expansive Worlds and Improved Travel
In the early hours of the morning, Square Enix released a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3 at the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour in Los Angeles. Naturally, excitement was the first emotion fans of the series felt, and then maybe disappointment that it may not make an appearance at E3 2017. That hope was renewed with the announcement that more details will arrive in July.
But now that the trailer is out, let’s break down some of the things we’ve seen in it, starting with the first thing we saw: the seemingly massive world of Mount Olympus.
At the start of the trailer, Sora is “falling with style” into the middle of Olympus, themed after the Disney movie Hercules. This is where he spends the majority of the trailer as he battles hordes of heartless and later, one of the Titans originally depicted in the 1997 film.
Not only do the worlds seem sizable in comparison to the other main entries in the franchise, but Sora can travel with more ease, running up walls, boosting himself forward and upward off of enemies. It seems that to match the scale of the environments, Sora has learned these new methods to allow players to get around much easier and with much more dynamic motion.
