Xbox Live and Minecraft: Xbox One Edition Goes Free for This Weekend

Xbox Live Gold will be free this weekend for all Xbox Live members, Microsoft announced this week. Calling it a “Multiplayer All-Access” event, those without Xbox Live Gold can access online multiplayer in any game from now until Sunday, May 21. That includes games for both Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Additionally, the Xbox One edition of Minecraft will be unlocked during the limited time event. The title can can be downloaded from the digital store, and is completely playable until 11:59 p.m. PT on May 21.

Minecraft: Xbox One Edition supports up to four player split-screen and up to eight players online. All progress made and achievements earned will transfer to the full game if purchased after the event is over. The game sells for its regular retail price of $19.99.

Microsoft has held free weekends for its online service in the past, including free trials of games such as Rocket League and NBA 2K17. Blizzard will be hosting a free weekend trial for Overwatch next week on all platforms, including Xbox One, with the release of Overwatch Game of the Year Edition.
