Breath of the Wild

Smash Bros. Creator Talks Similarities and Differences Between Breath of the Wild and Horizon

Both stories chase a forgotten past.

Masahiro Sakurai, the beloved creator of Super Smash Bros., has his own column in the Japanese magazine, Famitsu. In his latest entry, translated by Source Gaming, Sakurai talks about Horizon: Zero Dawn and the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the things that make them similar yet very different. Sakurai goes very in-depth on the common features and contrasting aspects for both titles, which he clearly has put many hours into.

A week before writing this column, two wonderfully outstanding works were released and I was torn between how to spend my time. Horizon Zero Dawn (from here on out “Horizon”) and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (further referred to as “Zelda”). By all means, play them both because they really are masterpieces.

With that being said, I am surprised by the fact that although there are aspects that are very close, there are other aspects that are very different.

If you would like to read Sakurai’s entire entry, make sure to check out Source Gaming for the full translation.
