Koei Tecmo Teases a Lot of Games & Announcements for 2021

Today several developers and executives from Koei Tecmo discussed their plans for 2021 in a large group interview on Famitsu.

Kenichi Ogasawara, producer of Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sphere of Influence, Toukiden, and Persona 5 Scramble mentioned next year’s 40th anniversary of the Shibusawa Kou brand, adding that Koei Tecmo is working on a game suitable for that memorable milestone and encouraging fans to look forward to it.

Keisuke Kikuchi, producer of Fairy Tail and Atelier Ryza mentioned that the company is preparing to announce some games by the spring, with a wide range of games in development. He also added that next year will mark the 20th anniversary of Fatal Frame (of which he was also producer), so he hopes to celebrate in some way.

General manager Hisashi Koinuma explained that he’d like to accelerate the use of Koei Tecmo’s IP and actively invest in new games both for Japan and overseas. He also confirmed that KT will release many games in 2021, so users should look forward to them.

Koei Tecmo president Kou Shibusawa explained among his goals for 2021 that the company will continue to develop Eastern-style games that fans around the world can enjoy. In particular, there will be games based on Japanese history and culture.

Director Yosuke Hayashi mentioned that now that new hardware has debuted, he feels the expectations for one game are growing. Developing a title that not only meet expectations, but also exceeds them is difficult, but he would like to create each game so that fans are happy and surprised.

Atelier Ryza and Atelier Ryza 2 producer Junzo Hosoi explained the Gust brand will take on a variety of challenges in 2021. There will also be reveals of titles that couldn’t be announced in 2020.

Nioh 2 director Fumihiko Yasuda explained that for Team Ninja the development of the Nioh series has come to an end after seven years, but there are multiple projects that will start full-scale development in 2021.

Dynasty Warriors producer Akihiro Suzuki mentioned that he’s working on delivering new information on Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires soon.
