Not afraid of no Madden curse.
New England Patriots quarterback and five-time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady will grace the cover of Madden NFL 18, Electronic Arts announced today. This is the first time in the franchise’s history that teammates have starred on the cover for the game in back-to-back years, with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski featured on Madden NFL 17.
“The Madden NFL 18 cover is a great honor for me,” said Brady in a press release. “Especially since I have been playing the game since growing up next to EA headquarters in the Bay Area. I’m not one to believe in curses, so I’m ready to take the challenge head on like always! It doesn’t stand a chance!!!”
Previous cover stars have fallen to the “Madden curse,” which meant those who appeared on the cover of a Madden NFL game would soon suffer from an injury or poor performance. Gronkowski played only eight games last season due to numerous injuries. Brady tried to reassure fans there was no curse in a Facebook video today.
Additionally, EA announced Madden NFL 18 would launch on Aug. 25 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Pre-ordering the standard edition for $59.99 includes the choice of an Elite player from any NFL team to use in Madden NFL 18 Ultimate Team and five Squad Packs, while the $79.99 G.O.A.T. Edition pre-order has both bonuses and the ability to play the game on Aug. 22, three days earlier. EA Access will let subscribers play up to 10 hours of the game in a trial starting Thursday, Aug. 17.
EA released a debut trailer, posted below, showing off footage from the Frostbite engine. It is the first game in the series to use the EA DICE-developed engine, traditionally used for the Battlefield franchise. EA notes that more information on Madden NFL 18 will be shown at EA Play on June 10, including a “brand-new mode.”
