The hype train continues.
The Nintendo Switch was officially launched at the start of March, and it’s been enjoying quite a fair bit of sales. According to a press release from Nintendo, the Switch is the company’s fastest-selling console, and it sold over 906,000 units in March alone. This is thanks in no small part to the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as well. As the console’s main launch game, Breath of the Wild sold over 1.3 million units on both the Switch and the Wii U. This also makes Breath of the Wild Nintendo’s fastest-selling Nintendo launch game, and the fastest-selling title in the Legend of Zelda series.
As was the case with the NES Classic Edition, supply and availability of the new console has not been able to keep up with consumer demand. However, Nintendo has previously announced their plans on doubling down on production so that it’ll be easier for consumers to purchase a new console. The console should continue to enjoy good sales, especially with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe coming up at the end of the month.
