Persona 5: How to Beat Cognitive Wakaba (Fourth Palace Boss)

Harpy!

Cognitive Wakaba is the main boss you’ll face in Persona 5’s fourth Palace. Before attempting to take on this boss, we recommend being at least level 30, with a Persona that isn’t weak to Wind damage. If you happen to have a Persona that can block physical damage as well, like Shiki-Ouji, that will come in extremely handy in the fight.

The fight against Cognitive Wakaba isn’t all that difficult; the first phase requires you to hit her with spells and guns, as your physical attacks won’t be able to reach her. Just pummel her with your best skills until she flies up into the air. At this point, you’ll have to get ready for a devastating swooping attack. However, Morgana won’t be able to predict when she actually comes in for the kill. You’ll have three turns to make sure that everyone is healed up. Once everyone is at full health, have all of them guard, and prepare for the big attack. Even while guarding, Wakaba’s swooping attack will take out a lot of your HP.

In the second phase, Futaba will join your side. Here, you’ll have the option of sending one of your party members to man the ballista. If anyone in your party is weak to Wind, send them on ballista duty. As with all boss fight gimmicks, you’ll need to survive three turns before the ballista activates. While waiting for the ballista, Cognitive Wakaba will try to hit you, but you still won’t be able to hit her with physical attacks. Your best bet is to keep hitting her with spells. Her Slam will damage one party member, while her blasts and swipes will hit the whole party. She can also inflict despair on a party member, so make sure to cure the status immediately, or that party member risks instant death.

When the ballista is finally ready and hits her, you’ll be able to deal a lot of damage with physical attacks. You’ll get about two rounds of attacks in before Cognitive Wakaba flies away again. Repeat the process until she’s finally defeated.
