How to Use Items in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Using items to your advantage is the best way to get ahead during a race in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. First off, you have to collect the iconic question mark boxes on the race track to get an item. The kind of item that you get is completely random. Sometimes you’ll get a shell that you can use to hit enemies, and other times you’ll get a simple coin to add to your collection.
When racing through the courses in the game, try to go for the two boxes stacked on top of each other instead of just the single ones. This will allow you to hold two items instead of just one. The little circle in the top left corner of the screen will show you which item you’ve collected. To use an item, all you have to do is press the L button on the Switch. This will let your racer automatically use whatever item you had equipped in your slot. Be sure to use them wisely and carefully, though. You never know when you might need that red shell to attack the driver in front of you in case you get overtaken.
