Deadpool 2 Finally Has Its Cable, Sadly Not Keira Knightley

Well, dang.

After months of rumors about who would be playing Cable in Deadpool 2, the choice has finally been revealed by the Hollywood Reporter. Sadly, it won’t be Keira Knightley, as many have hoped, but Josh Brolin, best known for his Oscar nominated performance in 2009’s Milk. He’ll play the time traveling mutant opposite Ryan Reynolds, returning as the titular Merc with a Mouth, and Atlanta star Zazie Beets’ superpowered mercenary Domino. Exactly how the three characters will come to meet is unclear, but it’s sure to deliver a lot of laughs and action.

Cable, the adult son of X-Man Cyclops, was co-created by Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, and is the opposite of Wade Wilson in every way: he’s used to having his orders followed, plays it completely straight. The two have been paired together in comics for years, including a team comic during the late 2000’s. Currently, the two are coworkers in the Uncanny Avengers comic. Along with playing the time traveling mutant, Josh Brolin will be playing the Mad Titan Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, due out next year.

Deadpool 2 will arrive in theaters next year.
