NieR: Automata – Weapon Stories

Recommended Videos

Just like past Drakengard games, NieR: Automata features unique weapon stories that you can unlock as you upgrade your equipment. Each weapon can be upgraded four times, and every upgrade level will unlock the next part of the story for you to read.

You’ll be able to start upgrading your weapons as soon as you unlock the Resistance Camp in the City Ruins. Simply talk to the weapons seller, and he’ll upgrade your weapons as long as you have enough money and materials to do so. Once you’ve upgraded a weapon, bring up your main menu and head over to the Intel tab. From here, you’ll find the Weapon Stories option, and you’ll see a list of all the weapons you have in your inventory so far. Selecting any weapon will bring up the relevant story on the right-hand side of the screen, and you can even hide the text to see the key visual for the weapon.

Weapon stories don’t usually give you any info that’s relevant for beating the campaign, but it does flesh out the game’s world, and they also contain some of the saddest and most well-written short stories in the game.
